I realized there would be trouble in the beginning after getting my Bachelor's degree. I asked, "What will happen if I pursue a music career in Japan?" 19.1.5 Nearing to 29 Repeating Chasms. Line 1 says, "Influence nearing. Constancy, good fortune." Does it seem that it will change the music culture? Line 5 says, "Realization nearing. Right for a great leader. Good fortune." Does it seem that the career will come to fruition? I then asked, "What will happen if I pursue a Master's degree?" 52.6 Stilling to 15 Integrity. Line 6 says, "Great-hearted stilling. Good fortune." Would it not work out?

Here's something I wrote in WikiWing about 52.6:

Not everyone translates this as "great-hearted," but I wonder if "great-hearted" might sometimes have a bit of flavor of courage ("heart" in that sense)?
[...]
It felt like it took some courage for me to "still" myself, and force myself to give priority to something else.

I'm certainly not trying to say, just because I shared that example, that I think getting a master's degree is what you "should" do. (Of course.)

Yi's answers to me seem to be describing what each option would be like for you. Pursuing a career would be like 19.1.5 to 29. Going back to school would be like 52.6 to 15.

I guess I think the second one means that if you delay pursuing a career in order to go to graduate school, it might feel to you like "stilling" (stopping, not making progress), and that might make you nervous. So if you think graduate school would be a worthwhile endeavor, you might have to be a little brave in convincing yourself of that.

Hexagram 15 can be about completing things - the oracle text, from Hilary's translation, says:

'Integrity creates success.
A noble one completes it.'

It's also about finding balance. The Image text says:

'In the centre of the earth there is a mountain.
Integrity.
A noble one reduces what is too much and increases what is diminished.
Weighing things up to even out their distribution.'

So you might think about those two ideas - do you feel your education is complete as it is, or do you feel
it's not? Does a sense of balance come into it at all?

Being honest, I don't have any decent ideas about the 19.1.5 to 29 reading, I'm sorry. I wonder what the "realization" is in line 5? It might be tempting to see "great leader" and "good fortune" and think that's a lot of very good news - but a great leader is also one who recognizes bad situations for what they are, hopefully earlier rather than later. Another note in WikiWing about this line says, "Experience: the realisation that nears can mean coming to know something you’d rather not know."

Oh - I clicked submit before adding this very important point - the bit about "great-hearted" having to do with courage was based only on one example of my own of 52.6 which I'd experienced as requiring a little bravery, and I'd also had another experience with "great-hearted" in a different line as also needing a bit of courage, so I thought it might be worth mentioning in WikiWing.

But not every author even translates it as "great-hearted," and even when they do, they don't necessarily pick out courage as an attribute.

(Don't go by one person's example, is what I'm trying to say.)
