hello again... i've been posting relatively a lot lately, i guess i arrived at some crossroads in life. all your help is greatly appreciated!

a friend of mine had an idea for business and offered we could start it together. even though i was initially sceptical, i liked the thought of it and it started to grow on me somehow. i asked the book of changes, what's the highest potential of starting this business with my friend?
34.1 seems to advise me to not jump right into it, don't try to achieve anything by force, basically don't get overexcited. this is quite reassuring actually, as so far i only suggested we should maybe start meeting regularly for brainstorming sessions and not do anything until we have a solid plan.
32, understood as duration / continuity feels quite hopeful. i especially like the following keywords that go with it from Bradford Hatcher's I Ching:

continuing, surviving, lasting, endurance, steadiness; adaptability, sustainability, longevity, persistence, coherence across time, consistency, regularity, constancy, stability, maturity, integrity, proficiency, learned versatility, self-renewal, self-regeneration, self-succession; the long run; alignment, holding true throughout outer changes, dynamic balance, perseverance, not always predictability or a sameness; resourcefulness, resilience

sounds like a lot of work's ahead of us, but it might actually pay off in the long run? any other words of wisdom? thanks so much!

Hello Legume. For 34.1 > 32 ...

Some names for 34 are 'Big and Strong', and 'Wielding Great Strength.' The trigrams are Thunder above Heaven, so there is a lot of energy here - or at least that might be how the situation feels to you.

The Oracle suggest that you should persist (I.e. be persistent, move forward), but that you also may need to take a step back to assess what all this is about.

Line 34.1 also suggests this, and offers a way to approach the situation: to be 'Powerful in the toes. To go boldy bodes ill for staying confident.' The idea of 'power in the toes' suggest that you feel your way, in the same way you might use your toes when walking a path, to serve as feelers, so that you can know and feel the rocks and holes, so as to avoid them.

You might apply this idea to a new business: you are excited to be on the path of a new venture, but you need to learn more about it, so you're not stubbing said toes or falling into ditches, even ones that should have been obvious to you!

So, what do you know about this business: does your friend have a business plan? Do you know about the market for whatever it is you will be offering? How is this venture going to be funded? How will you two split both the investment and the profits? Do you have a plan B?

You could of course enter into this arrangement without knowing anything about it! And it might still work out! But looking at some of the names of the related hexagram 32 - Continuity, Constancy, (to be) Lasting - these seem to suggest a more knowledgable, 'eyes-wide-open' approach to all this.

32's text of course tells us that 'nothing is wrong.' That its 'worthwhile to be persistent.' And that it's also 'worthwhile to have somewhere to go.' But I'd suggest that along with all this, that it is also worthwhile to have a good sense of where it is you are going, and where the rocks and holes are along the path that takes you there.

Best, David.

the idea never took off while recently i realized this person has actually no clue about anything business related and i exhaled with relief while talking to someone else, thank goodness i never started a company with this person, as we once planned. an overactive yet very creative mind that unfortunately rarely brings things to conclusion... i guess that's the context of 32 here. we're still friends though and i'm happy to leave it at that.
