The Fall semester at Stony Brook will start on the 25th of this month. I have received a conditional offer where I am required to keep a GPA of 3.0 if I attend. Basically, I am put on probation due to my low undergraduate overall GPA. I can submit the agreement by August 15 if I am still interested.

What will happen if I sign and submit the conditional admission agreement? 51.1.5 Shock/The Arousing/Thunder/Moving/Exciting Power to 45 Gathering/Massing/.
Hex 51: Chên gives the intimation of ease and development. When the time of movement which it indicates comes, the subject of the hexagram will be found looking out with apprehension, and yet smiling and talking cheerfully. When the movement like a crash of thunder terrifies all within a hundred li, he will be like the sincere worshipper who is not startled into letting go his ladle and cup of sacrificial spirits. (Symbolism) The trigram representing thunder, being repeated, forms Chên. The superior man, in accordance with this is fearful and apprehensive, cultivates his virtue, and examines his faults.
  • The first line, undivided, shows its subject when the movement approaches, looking out and around with apprehension, and afterwards smiling and talking cheerfully. There will be good fortune.
  • The fifth line, divided, shows its subject going and coming amidst the startling movements of the time, and always in peril; but perhaps he will not incur loss, and find business which he can accomplish.
Hex 45: In the state denoted by Ts'ui, the king will repair to his ancestral temple. It will be advantageous also to meet with the great man; and then there will be progress and success, though the advantage must come through firm correctness. The use of great victims will conduce to good fortune; and whatever direction movement is made, it will be advantageous. (Symbolism) The trigram representing the earth and that for the waters of a marsh raised above it form Ts'ui. The superior man, in accordance with this, has his weapons of war put in good repair, to be prepared against unforeseen contingencies.
51.1=Doing so will be beneficial to me.
51.5=I can achieve the requirements of the school.
45=I will be surrounded by faculty members helping me along the way.
Why is the reading looks positive?

What will happen if I do not sign and submit the conditional admission agreement? 17 uc Following/According With.
Sui indicates that under its conditions there will be great progress and success. But it will be advantageous to be firm and correct. There will then be no error. (Symbolism) The trigram for the waters of a marsh and that for thunder hidden in the midst of it form Sui. The superior man in accordance with this, when it is getting towards dark, enters his house and rests.
Is it saying that there is nothing wrong with not going, but I am on my own?

Is Yi advising me to do it?

I can't see that you have said whose translation you are quoting ? If you copy out chunks of someone else's work you have to say who wrote it. You have to say who you are quoting in any academic work so it's a necessary habit to get into. Also the writer should always be credited.

I don't think you're being advised not to do it.

You'd have to shake yourself up a bit, pull yourself together, wake up. I mean this is very much 'take a deep breath, take the plunge. It's a bit of a shock if you have become lazy over the last few months, you'll need to start really committing to this (45) but it can enliven you a great deal and there are things to accomplish (line 5). It looks to me very much how a lot of kids will find being back at college after a long break. You will need to focus (45) but also it's a shared focus and maybe you will enjoy being back in a group learning together. I think the Yi is saying here 'look lively, wake up, get moving, there's things to do'.

What will happen if I do not sign and submit the conditional admission agreement? 17 uc Following/According With.

Well it's telling you I think to consider what you are following if you don't submit the agreement. Now I have no idea what this is or how you've been doing but I think this answer simply says if you don't sign and submit you'll be following your own inclinations and there's nothing wrong with that but do you want a relaxing time where you follow what you feel like doing or do you want a lively exciting time where you will need to wake up to put effort in ?

How do you feel ? That is the question 17uc is asking you I think. Where do you feel life is leading you and what do you really want ? I'm assuming you are young and have no responsibilities yet so now is a good time to ask yourself what you want. I like the look of the 51.1.5>45 because it looks exciting and rejuvenating. Also maybe you'll meet new people (45) .

17 looks altogether more laid back and that's fine too but I think in your shoes I would go ahead and sign up. I Ching aside what's to lose ? If you sign up and hate the course or find it too hard you can leave and do something else. But if you don't sign up you haven't had the chance to find out what it would be like.

You've written out a lot of Legge but I think you'd get more responses here if you shared more about you, what you personally feel like doing, what you want. There must be thoughts you are having about the choice but you haven't shared them. I think people are put off responding where there are large chunks of copied text and no personal input.

How does it make you feel to go back ? How would it make you feel not to go back ? I think 51.1.5>45 is a cheerful answer, Uncle Yi saying 'come on young man, lets go, there's things to do !'. For me 17uc here for you feels more like going back to bed. What do you think ?

Oh also 17uc very much asks you where you feel drawn to. Is there is passion or interest you really want to follow ? If there were then I wouldn't see 17uc quite so much as going back to bed. But I really like the answer of 51.1.5>45 and I think you need this focus, I think it will help to ground you and focus you in the long run. Also I wonder if the 51>45 answer shows things have changed since you were last there, things won't be as you expect, maybe you'll enjoy it more or maybe there will be different people and you will find it more exciting. There's a chance to find a sense to belong with the 45, maybe you'll find it easier to connect with the group you are in.

I also feel the 51.1.5>45 is advising you shake yourself up and get on with signing and submitting the form, don't hang around, get on with it and make the committment.

If I sign and submit, I would expect to take public loans, which I have to pay. If I don't, I'll have to look for a job, but given COVID, nobody would be hiring. I can apply for civil service but the exams are not open for the time being.

That would have been useful information in your first post rather than quoting chunks of Legge. It's really hard to get a sense of what you personally want, you don't give away much in your posts.
