Synchronicity and elephants

This was my Daily OM today and I thought it was really interesting, especially in relation to 16, which is often associated with elephants. Then I realized I had received hex 16 4 times recently. Think someone is trying to tell me something???

Gentle Nobility
The Spirituality Of Elephants
The elephant is the largest living land animal, revered for its strength and intelligence. In the Far East, the elephant traditionally carried royalty and nobility, therefore equating it with much status. The elephant symbolizes wisdom, patience, and longevity and is the subject of much folklore. Though big and strong, elephants are really peaceful, gentle animals.

In Asian and Buddhist tradition, the white elephant is considered the most sacred of all animals. It is said that mothers of great teachers and masters dream of white elephants. And, according to legend, while she was pregnant, Buddha's mother dreamt a white elephant entered her womb.

The elephant is also considered sacred throughout India and Southeast Asia. In spiritual artwork, the elephant is often depicted carrying gods. As the god of warriors, the elephant was Indra's super weapon and as the god of rain, Indra used the gray elephant to bring forth monsoons. The elephant-faced god Ganesha, is one of the most beloved Hindu gods. His name is often called out at the start of worship, as well as at the beginning of new enterprises, as he has the power to remove obstacles. He is also the patron of literature and learning.

One of the most outstanding features of the elephant is its trunk and the elephant does have a strong sense of smell. According to animal totem custom, the sense of smell is a symbol of discriminating taste. Those with an elephant totem should pay attention to the old adage, "something smells funny." In a more literal sense, aromatherapy can be especially beneficial to those with elephant totems. Essential oils and incense will enable you to shift your consciousness effectively, for the elephant is also symbolic of clouds, representing the mist that separates the formed world from the unformed.

Totem traditions too, pay attention to the elephant's strong sense of family and society, noting, "If the elephant has come to you, prepare to draw upon the most ancient wisdom and power. You will have an opportunity to either help yourself or others reclaim your most primordial royalty."

Seeker,

Elephants not only live in harmony with their environment, they are also very social creatures who travel with companions. 16,4 speaks of companionship and attracting others to you. Is this an issue in your life?

Seeker,

Sorry, I misinterpreted your message. I thought you meant you had received 16,4 several times rather than 16 on four separate occasions. I still hold that it is talking about your social and/or organizational life. Working in harmony with others seems to be a recurring theme in your life.

Hmmm. And there you are with your I Ching ready to help answer your questions. And you can ask it anything...

(Upon further reflection.) And as long as you remain sincere, respectful, and well-intentioned, it'll probably keep answering you, too...

And I can help others interpret their answers

Yes Chris, working in harmony is a definate recurring theme. The thing is, when 16 is the resulting hex, is that a positive outcome or not??? Or is it saying it depends on how I deal with the situation?

16 is one that I haven't found an interpretation that really speaks to me yet, not even in Karcher or Huang. I found some in the archive that talk about energy, but I can't figure out if that is a good thing or not, or again if it depends on how you use that energy.

Seeker,

Rather than seeing resulting hex as a positive outcome, why not see it as a proposed way to deal with your situation? By attempting to act in harmony with others you would be acting in accordance with the Tao. Often, I find in my own readings an encouragement to follow principles in the Tao Te Ching.

Please wait, don't do anything, just listen, just feel ..
Listen to the sound of silence ..
And feel the waves of peace ..

Within the sound of silence you will hear other sounds, subtle sounds.
Within the waves of peace you will feel other waves, subtle waves.

Subtle signals ..
Do you hear them? Do you feel them?

If you don't, no need to worry, just wait.
The time will come. Just listen, just feel ...

Hey! Now don't fall asleep! Stay alert! Be ready!

But please wait. Just listen. Just feel.
When the time to act comes you will know it.
When the door opens you will hear it.
When the wall gives way you will feel it.

Just listen to the sound of rain ..
And feel the drops falling on your face ..
That is all you need to do.

(Poet off)

Hmm, not that bad for a Dutch guy, uh?
Or?!
Oh, well ..

Actually, thats great, both poetically and as an explanation. And it resonates even more with me because one of my favorite songs is Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel.

Ironic that you mentioned 16.4; I got that one last night

Your poem above reminded me of this one, which I love..and although it deals with heartbreak, it is still, in essence, applicable to the waiting, providing for,and "making room for" in 16.

Wait, for now.
Distrust everything, if you have to.
But trust the hours.
Haven't they carried you everywhere, up to now?

Personal events will become interesting again.
Hair will become interesting.
Pain will become interesting.
Buds that open out of season will become lovely again.
Second-hand gloves will become lovely again,
their memories are what give them
the need for other hands.
And the desolation of lovers is the same:
that enormous emptiness
carved out of such tiny beings as we are
asks to be filled; the need
for the new love is faithfulness to the old.
Wait.Don't go too early.
You're tired.
But everyone's tired.
But no one is tired enough.
Only wait a while and listen.
Music of hair,
Music of pain,
music of looms weaving all our loves again.
Be there to hear it,
it will be the only time,
most of all to hear,
the flute of your whole existence,
rehearsed by the sorrows,
play itself into total exhaustion.

How about this poem, Seeker, regarding the relationship rythyms of elephants.... I wont copy all of it, just some stanzas..

The elephant, that huge old beast,
is slow to mate;
He finds a female, they show no haste
they wait

for the sympathy in their vast, shy hearts
slowly, slowly to rouse....
as they loiter along the river beds
and drink and browse

( I am skipping the mating part)

Oldest they are and wisest of beasts
so they know at last
how to wait for the loneliest of feasts
for the full repast.

They do not snatch, they do not tear;
their massive blood
moves as the moontides, near, more near.
till they touch in flood.
