the 36-ness of hex 12

Hi guys,

I wonder what is your opinion of the 36-ness of hex12 as appears in Wilhelm's translation.

I got hex12 unchanging regarding a matter and suddenly in my eyes the following commentaries appeared in bold blinking letters uch:

From Judgement :If the possibility of exerting influence is closed to them, they nevertheless remain faithful to their principles and withdraw into seclusion.

From The Image :He therefore hides his worth and withdraws into seclusion.

The quoted parts brought in mind some h36 elements and needed to ask a follow up question to understand better the significance of h12 for that particular situation. I got 36.1>15 ha !!!

.... If he does not want to make compromises within himself, but insists on remaining true to his principles, he suffers deprivation. Never the less he has a fixed goal to strive for even though the people with whom he lives do not understand him and speak ill of him.

Same story , seems to be from here. It makes me wonder if sometimes h12 might not ask for a departure from a certain situation; iow if it is not just a loud and clear No but a conditional No ie; remain enganged yet be aware of the limitations and the influences embedded in that "environment" so they won't derail you.

Any thoughts you are willing to share will be much appreciated.

oh.. hex 33 comes in mind too so ideas/thoughts on that respect too are also interest me

i'm not sure if this is what you' looking for, nevertheless:
36 is more like moving in s.o.'s blind spot and its advisable to flee whereas with 12 i'm moving in the open but the hegemonial way of life is just not compatible with my way so I'm an outsidert and yi assures me not to participate.

I see 36 more as blend and 12 as depart-like the imaginary of the two trigrams- , like you said, but Wilhelm's text makes me rethink that, how radical this disengagement is, iow.

i have 2-3 different scenarios in my mind of what h12 could mean in that case so I wanted to explore more and hear other opinions about the 12-ness of 36.1 and the 36-ness of 12.
