As for log spirals, they do stem from a more 'primitive' time - these days the spiral is not circular, it is more square, showing the XOR precision level we work off.

(mysticism in the past was attracted to the log spiral and phi etc - the geometric representations were considered as close and you could get to 'god' etc. These days the focus is more 'precise' - we move from the geometric to the algebraic, the field to the point and focus on transcendence - IOW a focus on being god rather than having a relationship with, getting close to, god! - this path can lead to psychosis or to some 'higher plane' ;-))

As such, log spiral development is focused on conserving of energy over time and so 'gentle' in development and looks 'back' only a few contexts to aid in developing the current; the vibe is more qualitative than quantitative.

OTOH square spirals are energy expending and look back to 'the beginning' to aid in development of the current. (and so a push to discover beginnings and so aid in being more precise!)

From a brain perspective, the right is more 'circular' spiral, the left more 'square' spiral and in between a range of states moving from circle to square (and so the notion of squaring the circle!? it is intuitively attracting! ;-))

I recall that this particular diagram originated in 10th century AD - well after the original IC material of 10th century BC... and the issues then focus on alchemy (strong in taoism) where we do move from the raw to the refined.

The 'attraction' to the circle/square relationship is universal in that it comes out in Western occult thought as well (of about the same time - alchemy of 10th century AD onwards in the West) (see any texts on spiritual geometry) What we now have from the neurosciences etc is the 'reason why' if you like - the core square/circle dynamic has roots in differentiating/integrating and issues of the use of memory etc as feedback in deriving meaning.

The "dimension of precision" in the IDM work covers the movement from the focus on precision and so from circle to square - as we move along the dimension so we move into an increasingly precise realm (binary sequences) but also a realm of high energy and complexity/chaos dynamics - and so the notion of 'transcendence' that we find in general alchemical processes (taoism gets into concern with seeking/establishing immortality etc - a notion common in the increasingly 'yang' focus on transcendence where in our current collectives we seek immortality or eternal youth through genetic engineering and the fashion and showbix industries and an overall sense of 'childmindedness'.)

For comments on the Dimension of Precision see:

http://members.iimetro.com.au/~lofting/myweb/idm006.html

In the different sequences out of which the spirals form, the tightness of the spiral is determined by the pair positions in the sequence. Thus a square spiral gets tighter as we work with higher bit rates - e.g. 128/256 rather than 16/32 etc .. same for the lower energy, more conserving fibonacci sequence spirals where 13/21 is 'tighter' than 5/8 etc.

you could derive an IC equivalent based on the fibonacci sequence but it would be 'vague' when compared to what the binary sequence can give us - that said there will be states in the fibonacci that qualitatively are not expressed in the binary - the binary is too precise as such... gets into issue of labels, the fibonacci can label 'cars' or 'people', the binary gives each car a label as is does each person. In doing so it can move past 'cars' and 'people' qualities unique to the fibonacci perspective (which gets us into LOCAL context vs UNIVERSALS etc)

IF you interpret the circle/square relationships structurally, then the circle reflects the AND nature in the form of linked together temporally - and the square reflects the XOR nature in the form of linked together structurally (as we become more binary so we distort time to a degree of considering it slowable, stopable, and even reversable! - these perceptions are a consequence of physiology that our consciousnes has not until recent times understood)

When one reviews the asymmetry in the brain, so the right side is 'AND' oriented and focused on PAST/FUTURE (or more so the flow, the AS IS state of our being). The left zooms-in, exaggerates, encapsulates to form what IT considers is a NOW state, XOR oriented, time is made mechanistic rather than organic.

This left/right dichotomy is then found to be repeated front/back, surface/core, and as we zoom-in so it gets down to the neuron and its FM (left)/AM (right) biases in functionality... and so differentiating/integrating.

Thus we have isomorphisms expressed across such qualities derived from recursion of:

differentiate/integrate
FM/AM
Square/Circle
left/right brain
front/back brain
Particular/General
Concentrated/Diffuse
Syntax/Semantics
temporal-left/parietal-left
temporal-right/parietal-right (but overall more GENERAL than the left bias)

This phrase keeps lingering in my mind.
Quite true!

These days, very few young people go to temple to pray for gods. More and more people are self-reliance via motivation courses, NLP and other advanced techniques.

One idea i have with this square/circle dynamic is to formulate a "feedback system" when a person squaring the circle. If the circle represents "harmony", the square represents the "shifting" of MAN on EARTH from the HEAVEN. What the "feedback system" does is to prescribe the right "remedy" or "entropy-compensation" in order to maintain the harmony, as what is hapening in our consultation to I ching.

To start with, we could apply the

(1)Hexagram,
(2)Relating Hexagram and
(3)Hexagram formed by bit flipping (changing lines)

into a Matrix to form an equation.

Simulation is the key word here!

Our brain/mind, in order to process the data into useful information, does perform many loops of data refinement. The quality of the answer received in I Ching depends on how complete the processing loops achieve!

Too many loops and it turns into a problem - worry, obsession...

really minor correction: 11th century.
The big circle and this particular square are from the 11th c. Song Dynasty, authored by Shao Yong (1011-1077 ce).
He himself was not an alchemist, but was influenced by Chen Tuan (906-989 ce), who was from an alchemical school. Chen also influenced Zhou Dunyi. Shao developed his own branch of Xiangshu (image and number) Yixue.

Probably it has more to do with the processor speed, DRAM size and the bandwidth (among other things) ... in our brains.

But, i am not sure what kind of 'bug' we have that contribute to the unending loop of worry, anxiety and obsession?

I think the answer to the "unending loop" is close to the open-loop nature of our mental and mind activity.

That is why we have "the ancient text":
動靜有常 - a closed loop dynamics (e.g. orbit of the Earth)
剛柔斷矣 - which give rise to spiritual/physical world (hardware/software).

And this closed loop dynamics is dictated by the "Tai Chi Spiral(太極圖)". People at this era of time come to realize that this curve as a distribution of the "Entropy-value" with which processes evolve around.

A good way to understand the danger of the open-loop phenomenon in our nature is the cancerous cell.

Quote
The most fundamental characteristic of cells is their ability to reproduce themselves. They do this simply by dividing. One cell becomes two, the two become four, and so on. The division of normal and healthy cells occurs in a regulated and systematic fashion. In most parts of the body, the cells continually divide and form new cells to supply the material for growth or to replace worn-out or injured cells. For example, when you cut your finger, certain cells divide rapidly until the tissue is healed and the skin is repaired. They will then go back to their normal rate of division. In contrast, cancer cells divide in a haphazard manner. The result is that they typically pile up into a non-structured mass or tumor.
