The Christmas visitor and the strike, 10.1.2>12

I am expecting a visitor around Christmas time, she's a dear friend of a dear friend of mine, so she's a precious guest, even though we've never met before. The news lately are about a possible strike of public vehicle workers at Christmas time, and it made me wonder if I should tell her not to come. Such strikes became frequent here in the last few years, so chances are they'll really do it. I have no car, cabs are not granted during strike, not even if you order one 24 hours before, the roads are crazy, how will she make it from the airport to her hotel, how will I make it from my place to her hotel, what will she do for days, just walk around her hotel? But in the meantime I am excited to meet her, I want her to come. And I'm nervous that her visit will be pretty bad with a strike around.

I asked the Yi what if I suggest her to put off her visit, the answer was 10.1.2>12. 10.1 and 10.2 seems to suggest that it is a nice idea, smooth and easy, but 12 makes me wonder if that way I betray her/us. Maybe 10.1 and 2 says, yeah, you can easily avoid any kind of trouble that way, and 12 says, and in your trying not to get in ANY trouble, you miss a lot, you throw out the chance of meeting her because you don't want to risk.

(I also asked what if I tell her about the possible situation but do suggest her to come, the answer was 60, Limitation, unchanging.)

Reads to me as if the I Ching is telling you two could cancel this trip easily with no harm done.

Reads to me as if the I Ching is advising you to simply tell your friend the facts, but not to encourage her to come.

These hexagrams read to me as if there is more emphasis being placed here on what you should say to your friend, rather than a prediction about whether the trip is a good idea.
It seems the I Ching is saying that if you tell your friend not to come there would be no hard feelings as this seems to be a very sensible decision given the circumstances. As to telling her to come, it seems the I Ching is suggesting you not urge her to come, but simply tell her the realities and let her make up her own mind.

I agree with Rosada I feel your answer shows you avoid the trouble and worry by simply (10.1)advisng her not to come, keeping things simple and straighforward (10.2). I feel your answer also counsels you not to worry too much about what others think (10.2) Afterall its a simple, good reason you have to advise her to stay away, you aren't being duplicitous in any way just practical and thinkingof her welfare.

I'd see the 12 as simply the context of the question...The Strike. Things won't be moving (12) so tread simply (10.1.2)

60 unchanging can mean things are very much set within limits of whats possible and what the other will tolerate...possibly things outside your control. I guess it may seem more friendly just to tell her the situation and let her make her own mind up but you have to think of yourself too, if she says she'll come and it starts to worry you. I feel this answer shows she will be pretty sensible about her decision though. She needs to know how shes going to get to your place, she won't want to be wandering around in the cold. I think probably if you discuss it with her you can reach a decision you are both happy with.

Hex 10 shows something you may be afraid to do,you are afraid to tell her not to come becasue of the impact on the relationship but the tiger does not bite so it should be okay
because you are both sensible people (hex 60)


BTW I definately do not see 12 as a warning that you'll miss out by advisng her not to come

Yes, that's true. I think that if I simply tell her the possible situation, she'll decide to put her trip off, so I wanted to cheat and talk her into it, and even my questions was about that instead of the trip. Thanks for drawing my attention to it!

I too came to the decision to that. I should remember that even a host has to know her limits and not try to make decisions for her guests. Anyways, I too thought 12 would be for the strike at first, but it never came up anymore in any reading of the same subject. Which can mean that reading was the closest to the situation to be, yick.

Hi, Trojan, sorry about the late answer! My visitor had some problems with the arriving and more with the leaving (bad weather, delayed flights), annoying but nothing horrible, and the strike I was afraid of did not happen. The visit was truly great, it would have been a shame to cancel it.

So the answer is still a mystery to me, such as 10 in general. The smartest I can think of is that Yi gave me a general view on my problem instead of a direct answer to my question, and suggested to go on even as I mistrust. (I've noticed that 12 as a relating hex tends to show up as my own attitude in readings.)
