If I had words
To make a day for you
I'd sing you a morning golden and new
I would make this day
Last for all time
Give you a night
Deep in moonshine

If I had words
To make a day for you . . .

I love that song from the movie, "BABE"!

And I love the aesthetics of the film. The production value is very high. The location is beautiful. The art direction is stunning, and the colors are so vivid and alive. I do believe that's because it was shot on Fuji film and not Kodak.

As to the story...I never noticed in the half dozen or so times I've watched it before... because I never believed in destiny before...that the writers, Chris Noonan (who also directed) and George Miller, conveyed a strong message about destiny.

"The pig and the farmer regarded each other, and for a fleeting moment something passed between them...a faint sense of some common destiny."

And, of course, the mice went from singing "Pigs are definitely stupid" at the beginning of the film to "The Destiny Pig" just prior to the climax.

Also I couldn't help but notice the timing of my watching the film this umpteenth time just after reading the 44 to 33 where an argument raged on as to whose interpretion was right.

For those who haven't seen the film and don't know, or those who have and don't remember, the film opens with the narrator talking about Pig Paradise...a place so wonderful no pig has ever wanted to come back...as we watch pigs being herded up a ramp onto a truck. The narrator then says the little pigs left behind should not be sad about losing their mothers, but should be happy to work on getting themselves ready for Pig Paradise...and we seque to a close up of the sign on the side of the truck...Sunny Valley Meats.

What we know to be 'right' and what is 'right' are not always synonymous.

Cheerio the noo,

Val,

My wife has refused to eat any pork product after we saw 'Babe' . Sometimes I worry the quality of animal consciousness and feeling is the same as my own. What do you think? There are so many lizards where I live, and I do not understand them. People say they taste like chicken.

Lindsay...hi!

Hmmmm...that certainly is something I ponder. I have a cat that loves more than any human or animal I've ever met. She looks at me for long periods of time with a very loving look. When she sits on my lap, she leans into my chest...etc. etc. etc.

And as far as consciousness goes, just last night I watched the dog next door react to a woman's phobia of dogs. She was still way up the street when the dog picked up on it. It amazes me.

a friend of mine once had a dream that he was a pig about to go to slaughter. he really was the pig. the quality of the dream was different from any other dream he had had. it was a teaching dream. he woke with insights about how we manufacture animals, how we manufacture their lives for consumption. needless to say, i dont think he eats pork any more.
