The dilemma in hexagram 14.2

Hello friends,

I have got hexagram 14.2 changing to 30 on several different occasions.
For example today, after asking the iching "what I should do with the project I have been working on for a while now".
From my perspective, 14 has always represented a noble possession. But the commentaries on line 2 vary a lot, from throwing away some old baggage to travel better, to keeping a vessel of fast transportation which could see you to your destination.
So did anyone have an experience on this, or a clear interpretation?

Many thanks

Wagons move things.
Take your project somewhere.

Load up the car and get your show on the road.

Hi Pyramid, this is an interesting uestiqon, but, I'd like to know more about the background, the project. Do you want to get rid of it? Do you think it's not worth it?

Hi mandarin_23,
I do not know if it is worth pursuing or not. And that is why I asked this question.

Then in general I think the Yi hints that it is worth it? Move it somewhere and - as hexagram 30 says - probably show it, let it be seen, let it shine ...

Supreme fulfillment. That's pretty straightfoward, yes? You have the inspiration, clarity and the means (vehicle) to move this project forward. You can look at the moving 2nd line as, 'make your ideas visible, more firm, and begin to manifest them.' I don't see a dilemma here at all.

Thank you Freedda,

The dilemma was the previous interpretations I had read about line 2.
I like it, here I got a coherent interpretation from the three of you, that I could also apply to my previous castings.

Pyramid, now I'm confused, you said 'The dilemma in hexagram 14.2,' and I think all of us kind of agree that you've got a good reading here, sans a dilemma.

But then you talk about a previous casting with line 2? - and we don't know what the previous reading was about, and we have no idea what the cast was or which hex. the line 2 was a part of? So, we don't know what you're referring to, or even what the line 2 was about in the other reading?

Generally, this reading and its hexagrams and lines applies to this reading, and you can't assume some cross-over to another previous reading ....

Best, D.

Fair point,

Sorry for briefing the casting, I meant hexagram 14.2 (changing line 2).
I remember I have come to this casting for other questions in the past. Mostly as for the capacity of some situation. It might be naive to say that at least I could generalize the interpretation of this thread into them? so to say: I am facing a promising development.
I do this at times, when I have no idea about a casting and would rather read previous threads here to get a glimpse. Hope not all wrong approach :)

Pyramid, thanks for the clarification; now what you said makes more sense to me.

Unless it's glaringly off-track, I don't think I'm in a position to say yea or nay to your approach. I'd say for me I'd keep those past readings and 'generalizations' in mind when looking at a new reading But I'd perhaps think of them more as reference and that they're providing some context, like: "based on what I've seen before, this seems like a promising development ..." and then go from there.

After all, accumulated knowledge and experience are usually good things, right? I'd just not want them to take away from me putting fresh eyes on a reading, and also to make sure you include the particulars and specifics of each question, instead of saying right off: 'oh, I know exactly what this means.'

I hope that is of some use. Best, D.

All makes sense to me. And thanks for the advice, "how to interpret" is my first concern with the Iching :)

Hello again,

A follow up and a new question: I already scheduled a public presentation of my project results so far.
Yet I asked the iching what I should do in practice for my project and the answer was hexagram 19 unchanging. Is there any specific meaning to this generic answer? I see it as "approach"...

mhm, maybe it means "approaching something/somewhere new"?
Maybe I should take it with me and use it in new situations?
