badge 39: The College Application Process/ Senior Year High School

1. You are overwhelmed at the the thought of picking a college, let alone getting through the process. Suddenly, you want to be a kid again. That's okay. Spend september goofing off with your friends and reveling in your Senior status.

2. Your parents are overwhelmed too. And the Guidance Counselor wants to know everything yesterday. The good news is that not everything is your responsibility. Your parents tend to the financial planning and the Guidance Counselor meets with them to discuss the possibilities.

3. You want to pick the right colleges to apply to, and the pressure is on. But instead of forging ahead in confusion, why not look at it from the other angle....what do you want to study? Taking an online interest inventory that matches career aspirations with appropriate colleges is fun. Take the focus off of the hard decisions for now and explore your affinities.

4. You think you know now...but it's still confusing. Meeting with the counselor puts thing in perspective. Together, you decide on your top choices. Let the paperwork begin!

5. Your English teacher edits your application essay, and other teachers offer to write your recommendations. Getting the help you need feels good and you appreciate the feeling of support and cooperation.

6. Now it's you who wants to know yesterday. Which ones will accept me, where should I go, what's the best offer? Quit worrying. The hard work is over, now it's time to kick back and wait. Enjoy senior cut day. Have a good long talk with an adult you admire about what college was like for them. You are on the threshold of your future, but there is still some time to enjoy what's left of your "childhood."

39. Obstruction

THE JUDGEMENT

OBSTRUCTION. The southwest furthers.
The northeast does not further.
It furthers one to see the great man.
Perseverance brings good fortune.

THE IMAGE

Water on the mountain:
the image of OBSTRUCTION.
Thus the superior man turns his attention to himself
And molds his character.

THE LINES

39.1
Going leads to obstructions,
Coming meets with praise.

39.2
The king's servant is beset by obstruction upon
obstruction,
But it is not his own fault.

39.3
Going leads to obstructions;
Hence he comes back.

39.4
Going leads to obstruction,
Coming leads to union.

39.5
In the midst of the greatest obstructions,
Friends come.

39.6
Going leads to obstructions,
Coming leads to great good fortune.
It furthers one to see the great man.

Merit Badge 39. Care to Kareoke?

39.1
Nervous you may have to take a turn at the mike?
Then don't. We still love you.

39.2
Which is worse, standing up and singing in front of a packed house full of strangers or
Sitting all evening next to your date who will be furious with you if you don't?

No brainer, better to get up and sing.

39.3
Although maybe if it's still not your turn on stage
You could head for the bar instead and bring back a drink for your partner.
I bet he'd like that.

39.4
Any chance of getting your friend to come up on stage with you?

39.5
Nope, you're on your own.
But when you step into the spotlight you realize
You're surrounded by friends!
This is your moment!
You were born to perform!
Shu-bop! Shu-bop! My Baby!!!

39.6
Time goes by.
You've had a long and successful career as a Kereoke Super Star.
Though you don't hit the bars as often as you once did
Cause when you do try to slip in for a sentimental moment
Inevitably you get recognized.
Come-on, don't act so modest, you owe it to your public.
Just one more song for for the old man, pretty please?

Merit Badge 40.

40. Deliverance

THE JUDGEMENT

DELIVERANCE. The southwest furthers.
If there is no longer anything where one has to go,
Return brings good fortune.
If there is still something where one has to go,
Hastening brings good fortune.

THE IMAGE

Thunder and rain set in:
The image of DELIVERANCE.
Thus the superior man pardons mistakes
And forgives misdeeds.

THE LINES

40.1
Without blame.

40.2
One kills three foxes in the field
And receives a yellow arrow.
Perseverance brings good fortune.

40.3
If a man carries a burden on his back
And nonetheless rides in a carriage,
He thereby encourages robbers to draw near.
Perseverance leads to humiliation.

40.4
Deliver yourself from your great toe.
Then the companion comes,
And him you can trust.

40.5
If only the superior man would deliver himself,
It brings good fortune.
Thus he proves to inferior men that he is in earnest.

40.6
The prince shoots at a hawk on a high wall.
He kills it. Everything serves to further.

Hi, Rosada:

It´s easy to pardon when you are not the offended.
Were superior men shot like foxes or hawks?
Were they deprived of big toes? (1)

H.40
UNKNOT
(AND ENJOY IT)

If you´re bored come back home.
If there are still something to do let it for tomorrow... (in the morning !)
Enjoy the bed.

40.1
Don´t worry.
Nobody goes to blame you. No comments.

40.2
Fortune depends on the part of the body where the yellow arrow is received and with what impact.
That´s the reward for killing foxes. An arrow in the neck.
More probable you will not receive any arrow. And yellow even less. (2)

40.3
If you have a carriage, why to carry burden in the back?
That people are finding trobles.
The bad children will laugh.

40.4
How friendly to advice you to cutt off your big toe!
If you do so, be sure that the friends for coming will not put back it to you. (3)

40.5
But inferior men don´t matter what superior men are trying to prove.
They are always thinking how to pick up girls.
Earnest men don´t have girlfriends.
Where is the good fortune?

40.6
I wonder what was wrong with the hawk at the wall. We are all at the wall, any prince can pass an shoot us. Life is so, everything furthers, yah! When you are not in the wall !!!

Of course, the chinese text don´t tell us if the bird was killed, only the subjectivity of the translator. Did he never hear about hawking?

解 [jiě]: to divide / to untie / to unknot / ...
解决 [jiějué] resolve

All the best,

Charly

(3) Something is telling me that the word translated deliver actually means to enjoy.

Great Image Great:

Do CLIMB the mountain, but BEWARE not to fall in the POND.
Tall KIDS restrain consumist IMPULSES.
Use your MONEY, don't WASTE it.

The Lines:

41.1
Class is FINISHED, time of going to the videogames,
but think at your FOLKS' economy.

41.2
If affordable, pay sometimes for a FELLOW.
But don't exaggerate!

41.3
No comments.
When TALLER you will understand.
Meanwhile, never go alone to the DRUGSTORE.

41.4:
If you STOP WASTING, your folks will ENJOY.
No wrong.

41.5
A TURTLE is a LUCKY pet.
How much more 20 TURTLES 20!
Not the turtles, but your FOLKS will oppose.
Have CARE.

41.6
Don't TAKE money from your folks without CONSENT.
Behaving FINE all will go smooth.

SOMETIMES CHILDREN fall in love with their female teachers. It happens.

63.2
The woman loses the curtain of her carriage.
Do not run after it;
On the seventh day you will get it.
Wilhelm / Baynes

After a long day of work the female teacher comes back home driving the car so fast that a curtain flies back.

The LITTLE in love picks the curtain up and runs after the car. Useless intent of apple polishing...

The female teacher, of course, unreachable.

CHILDREN, don't run after cars, advices the Changes. Even if you run again seven days, you'll get, maybe, only more curtains.

That's all ...

Yours,

Charly

41.
DECREASE combined with sincerity
Brings about supreme good fortune
Without blame.
One may be persevering with this.
It furthers one to undertake something.
How can this be carried out?
One may use two small bowls for the sacrifice.

Thus the superior man controls his anger
And restrains his instincts.

1.
Going quickly when one's tasks are finished
Is without blame.
But one must reflect on how much one may decrease others.

2.
Perseverance furthers.
To undertake something brings misfortune.
Without decreasing oneself,
One is able to bring increase to others.

3.
When three people journey together,
Their number decreases by one.
When one man journeys alone,
He finds a companion.

4.
If the man decreases his faults,
It makes others hasten to come and rejoice.
No blame.

O 5.
Someone does indeed increase him.
Ten pairs of tortoises cannot oppose it.
Supreme good fortune.

6.
If one is increased without depriving others,
There is no blame.
Perseverance brings good fortune.
It furthers one to undertake something.
One obtains servants
But no longer has a separate home.

I recently have started thinking about kids and the I Ching again which motivated me to look up this old thread. Amazing how we stopped at 41. Decrease!
