Following is a passage from early in the first scroll of Homers Iliad.

I took the literal words, and related them to trigram attribute key words, as seen in RL Wings Illustrated I Ching. Then paired the trigram images [1-8] into hexagrams.

What is interesting, and this shows in a lot of other places in Homer is that if one takes the trigram key words and pairs with the nearest key words, the hexagram, and the judgement, seem often to form an additional syntax above and beyond the master narrative. In fact in some respects it acts like a tutor.

A collocation of trigram attribute key words [as cited in RL Wing] shows an extremely high utilisation of key words in Homer, compared to for example Hesiod. In fact the probability that there is a relationship seems quite likely. There is also a high frequency in Pindar and the OT.

Furthermore the key word, pairs for words like thigh, wood, wind, father and so on, very frequently provide what seems like complimentary meanings to the narrative.

I am fairly new to this, so I am sure I made some errors. However in the main, the process seems to operate as a higher level syntax over the master narrative, and computes consistently with trigram syntax and related judgements seems to be associated.

I am not for one minute suggesting this is in all western text. Specifically it is Homer, Pindar, and the OT. I don't think that its a matter of common words from ancient eras either, as the syntax corresponds closely in most cases to the narrative. [I also realise that translations from the Greek may have changed the position or word order in some cases].

However, I think it is significant. I have discussed this with some western academics, who did not like the concept at all. However I think they might be biased by socially conditioned beliefs.

I think the process was used as an elite form of communication, and that by and large it was kept secret, outside of intelligent elite circles.

I think it possible that this technology migrated west from China, firstly to Mesopotamia and from there via the Magi to the Mediterranean basin.

Example ends.

What is more if one takes the name ILIAD in Roman letters like this:

i L i 8 L

[where the 8 is the infinity sign, the 8 on its side being part of the "a" and the "d"]

We get in terms of I Ching passages:

1 - The power of creation
50 - Cosmic order
8 - Unity
58 - Encouraging

I think that in particular with Homer, there are a lot of well kept secrets.

From James Russell Lowell's Lamartine

"To carve thy fullest thought, what though
Time was not granted? Aye in history,
Like that Dawn's face which baffled Angelo
Left shapeless, grander for its mystery,
Thy great Design shall stand, and day
Flood its blind front from Orients far away".

This part of the poem interestingly was in the Last Will of Cecil John Rhodes.

I think that "blind front" refers to Homer, and refers to the wisdom of the I Ching, which comes from orients far away. That in fact Homer was a front for the I Ching and Tao which are embedded in the narrative. Recent academics citing "song culture" ie Nagy, Harvard et al, are on fairly flimsy ground, as the earliest proof of text they have is around 1000CE. In fact West, Oxford cites a more likely eastern influence.

As I have show above the wisdom of the I Ching is woven into both Homers works, as I think the Tao also is with an alternative syntax, in a similar manner, using different key words.

This also help explain the significance of Homer to Alexander the Great, who travelled and regularly consulted Homer. It was not because of the narrative itself, by rather the latent content, which is in my view I Ching, and Tao, and may also contain guidance to war or military situations.

I am interested in developing this further, and I am looking for interested parties with experience in Chinese classics, Western classics, Coprus Linguistics and so on, or just a general interest to help.
