One way of interpertation, and/or range of meanings associated with the trigrams relates to them as family members, where you have:
Earth: mother
Lake: youngest daughter
Fire: middle daughter
Wind: eldest daughter
Heaven: father
Thunder: eldest son
Abyss: middle son
Mountain: youngest son
I wondering how one might use these 'family members' in a reading? For example, could they sometimes represent actual family dynamics: for example, the tension between an eldest son and his father, or the feelings of the older daughters towards their young sister?
Or perhaps representing energies assocatied with the family: Lake - the youngest daughter's joy and perhaps a bit of self-centeredness; or Wind - the eldest daughter's attention to detail, to having a longer-term view of things; or Abyss - the middle son's uncertainty of his place, or maybe his willingness to take risks (since he doesn't feel the weight of succession upon him)? (Note that some of these are my own associations, others gleaned from others).
One reading I did a while ago involved a woman asking about her relationship with a co-worker. Can't remember the details, except that the two trigrams where two of the 'daughter' trigrams, and that at one point I thought, could this be about the 'sister' dynamics between these two women (which represents a very, very wide range of feelings/responses): love, closeness, rivalary, jockeying for their parent's affections .... sharing clothes, similar tastes and emotions ....
Any thoughts on this aspect of the trigram 'family' in Yi meanings/interpretations?
Best, D.
