On what level will I best accomplish things?
The reply was hexagram 56 the wanderer.
I have always been a wanderer of some sort, and whenever I stay in one place in my mind/ heart or area (geographically) I always ended up feeling like I was meant to be out there no matter how secure and stable I've been. I've always felt like there was more to see and experience. Just wonder if there's something I'm overlooking or missed with the hex?
Thanks

Megan

hi meganj,

I think your answer speaks of getting a clear focus and then opening the door and setting out.

Thinking of my sailing days and nights, fire on mountain meant the presence of land and the lights that guided us close to the course and away from the dangers of shallows.

Speaking in terms of trigrams, your upper trigram is about discerning what can help you go forth, what encourages your travel and gets you going and then there is the calm support of trigram ken, a steady, assertive background, which can also be seen as a door or storage space and sometimes even as a reserve or safety box . . it could also be about the sum of your knowledge or assets or previous experience, whatever it is that can propel you forward in your journey.

All this makes me think of the laws of supply-and-demand (or else, 'seek and you shall find') . . maybe you'd be great in commerce, or in the communication business?
I would think that so long as you can clearly set your destination and keep your watch out for favorable conditions, you will find prosperity in your endeavors . .

hope that helps some -cheers!

I met an old friend up in Montana just after he had canoed 1500 miles of the Mackenzie River into the Arctic Ocean, having done the whole journey with a 22lb backpack. He was a teacher in a wilderness school. He had a swiss army knife instead of a toolbox, a water filter instead of water jugs, a rifle and fishing pole instead of a pack full of food.
This is the wanderer. He travels light, with few tools, but each of those has a zillion uses.
He lives ad hoc. When the text says: "With modest fulfillment the wanderer persists" it means that anything more than modest fulfillment would be too heavy to carry.
The metaphor should be extended to include psychological and philosophical baggage as well.

Once I remember, not too long ago about 2 - 3 weeks I also got this hex on a question for love... hmm i'm not quite sure the lines or future hex but I remember this one for sure. It kinda made me think that in this way I should be like the wanderer when looking for love. "He (she) must be cautious and reserved to protect himself (herself) from evil."
And in wanting to know how to become a better person I got hexagram 1 no moving lines..
"Time is regarded as the basis of this motion."
It speaks of developing my higher nature and seeking my happiness and the happiness of others by persevering in what is right?
Hmmm, it sounds like its just saying making right choices, always.

Just for grins I should mention that this exemplary wanderer's name is Jonathan Turk. A search at Amazon will turn up some truly amazing accounts of his adventures, from kayaking across the Pacific Ocean to hanging out with Siberian shamans. The environmental science textbooks are his too.
