I felt a bit silly turning to the Yi for this, but I guess somewhere I was looking for a stern parent type that would wave its finger at me at say no no no no no, be sensible!:D

Finances have been really tough the past two years. I have not spent a dime on anything that was not vital (food) or obligatory (rent, taxes and so on). Even leisure (good for the soul) has been limited to long walks (free) and outings with friends have rather been the occasional coffee/happy hour rather than dinner. I've been careful, disciplined, sensible..and am pretty fed up!

For a year, I've been wanting to get a tablet for my work. In all honesty, it's a want more than an absolute need. Would it be helpful? Yes. Can I do my work without it? Yes. But i keep looking as the models that come out, checking the specs, the reviews, the promotions. I'd love to get a whizz bang version with 4G or at least 3G, but I'd be disciplined and just get the basic model with Wifi.

At some point, I have to fish or cut bait: buy it or put it out of my head.

So I asked the Yi: should i get tablet model X?
It answered 13.2.3.4.5 to 41 (decrease) - So people in harmony (tablet as collaboration tool), and harmony within (i won't think about it anymore if i have it), but with some of the changing lines not sounding terribly auspicious.
LiSe on 41 says "If you dare to be your naked self, you will be amazed how great and rich it is. Diminishing is augmenting. Only an empty cauldron can receive others and blessings.
Let go in order to find." Diminishing my financies to augment possibilities? A tablet would also diminish the amount of pieces of paper and notebooks lying around and help tidy up the various bits I work on into a more coherent "space" (wishful thinking and justification or plain practicality?)

So, a bit unsure as to the Yi's view on high tech tools (I'm a bit of a geek, I guess the Yi isn't LOL!), I asked should I wait to buy tablet X?
The answer was: 6.4.6 to 29
I'm all over the map on understanding this one - from oh let go of your inner conflict on this, if you don't get it you'll keep obsessing (29), to if you get it, you'll lose it or it will be stolen or, flip side, trying to conserve your finances isn't going to help you save more, they'll be taken anyway (6.6)

Any thoughts? I've never had either of these tosses, but then again, I've never asked the Yi a question on something that was not more vital, of the heart or spirit!

I've asked Yi plenty of shopping questions.....and it never answers as expected. Sometimes purchases are very important if money is short and decisions hard

I have on occasion asked about buying quite small things one might see as frivolity and got very sweet answers back.......wish I could remember what they were...but anyway along the lines of finding joy in things is good for you...sometimes. other times you are just chasing a quick hit (hex 54, remember that one, bad purchase)

Any you got 13.2.3.4.5>41. The first thing that stands out to me is the change pattern in the 13. If all the change lines were yang you would have hex 28 , if yin 27. Behind the question, the impulse behind the question that is, something is about to topple (28) because it's hungry (27). 13, as ever is a bit of a puzzle here..hmm but with that change pattern (I'm seeing in reverse from the lines 1 and 6 change pattern) I think hex 13 pushes through all the recent cuts you have been making. it's like you need to be back 'in the world', somehow this new tablet is a symbol for getting back into the world, connecting...being part of things. For that reason I think you will get it. I also think hex 41 has reached it's limit now, you need the input this will bring. if you look into it seems to me the wish for the tablet is more than it seems. If you listed all the ways it might make you feel, all the ways it can help you, you may be surprised how fluent it is.

However on re checking your question you asked about a specific model here, not just any tablet. I could also see the answer as buying a good one second hand. I mean taking 41 and 13 together...getting a good deal within your existing community ? Buying from a friend or a local shop. Not necessarily this model.

6.4.6>29 You aren't going to wait as you already decided really. I'm just not sure you will buy the exact model you want and I think you need to be in touch with your friends about the issue (hex 13) perhaps someone has one...or something, I don't know, but I think before heading off to shop in your shoes I would call some of my closest geek mates for a chat about it....ask them what they think etc. I think 6 here has to be about your own divided view.

With 13 you oft find a bunch of people somewhere in the answer.

What a cool answer, thank you Trojan :hugs: And thanks for not making me feel silly for asking such a question!

I think hex 13 pushes through all the recent cuts you have been making. it's like you need to be back 'in the world', somehow this new tablet is a symbol for getting back into the world, connecting...being part of things. [/I]

Oh yeah. And then I look at a tax bill, swallow hard, and uh oh...!

I actually did look around for a second hand model. My mind is set on a particular model, which is recent, that has features no other one has and which would be particularly helpful to me. What's hilarious is that these "used" ones are the same price or more than a new one (often the case where I live - it's easy as pie to get taken to the cleaners if you've not done your homework). I've looked around, and there are some good promos these days (missed an incredible one last week as I was dilly-dallying), and I did talk to a manufacturer rep about the model and being able to test it and, if it did not live up to my expectations, whether I could return it (yes, but only store credit, which is OK). So maybe that's where the 13 and talking to folks comes in. In my circle, I'm the geek and the one folks turn to for IT advice or repairs. They wouldn't have a clue what I'm talking about if I asked them for advice LOL!

I don't mind spending (investing) on things that last and have value. What's frustrating about IT and all these innovative gadgets that I'm terribly attracted to is they become outdated in a sneeze and/or they are programmed to break down within 2 years usually.

My credit card is itching... but i'm in the midst of making soup (the good old fashioned way, no IT involed), with a big Chesire cat grin on my face... early Merry Christmas to me maybe?

I did it :) And last week's promo was back, almost nearly as good.
So then I asked Yi, will they deliver on time as stated? I got 6.2 to 12 :hissy:
It will be interesting to see what actually happens. Delivery date is between 11/28 and 30.
I'll post back :)

Darn, the Yi was right!

THE YI WAS RIGHT.

And it did not take long.

Less than 24 hours after I placed and paid for my order, I receive an email from their payment verification partner (private company) asking for a slew of documents to verify that there has been no identity theft or fraud.

Swell, I'm all for that, but I sure as heck am not going to send those critical ID and banking documents to a private company no matter how legit via email (this was not even to be uploaded onto a secure server!). Of course, one cannot cancel an order by email, one has to call during business hours a number that is heavily taxed. From research this morning on the net, they don't seem to make canceling an order easy either.

So from a third off the normal price at other retailers, I'm going to have a nice phone bill.

Sometimes, I really hate it when the Yi is right. The accuracy here was frightening. I'm both furious (6) and blocked (12).

That's terrible....surely a scam. How could they expect you to send your private documents off just to buy something. I never heard of that before.

No Trojan, this one isn't a scam (although there are some of course). On-line vendors can choose to partner with this company to secure orders. The request for docs is haphazard. Unfortunately, this time I won the lottery. The only time I accepted to provide ID and banking info was to Sony, which required those to complete my PC purchase through their on-line store. But they provide a secure server within the company to FTP the stuff. I wasn't thrilled, but...
This time around? No way. Not to a third party. Not by email. Not when it also means my order would take yonks to arrive (am I feeling patient about this gismo?). Not even when it means a (particularly alluring to me) third less than what other main retailers sell it for.
I'm so irritated, I'm cleaning the flat from top to bottom (at least something good is coming out of it!!)
In any event, Yi was right.. Reminds me not to discount answers on other issues I may not like....

Of late I have thought Yi does give predictions we can't actually do much with. Like you couldn't have foreseen that could you....but it does put the previous answers in a different light....

......and I am wondering, re that 13>41 answer, given that you had 13.5, if in actual fact things may not be so irredeemable as you think.

I mean I wonder if you talk to them, personally, you can get a better outcome. See if Yi 'knew' all along what you were going to do that, then 13.2.3.4.5>41 may address the situation

13.2 describes their action of insisting on you displaying id...shame in the temple. Right now you are in the midst of 13.3.....defensive.....but what if you call them, stay calm (13.4) and they are more helpful than you think ? That would be the 13.5. 41 of course askes you to 'reduce passions'.

That may sound terribly far fetched to you....but it's just a thought......things don't always work out the way other people on the internet say. Sometimes you can ring and you just get through to someone who is helpful......and everything changes

What you say makes sense to me Trojan. Yet after scrounging around on the net about this and about the vendor, I immediately sent an email to my banker to reject any payment request from said vendor and took steps to have my personal data removed from this "financial checking company's" data base. I felt comfortable being proactive about this.

Now I have to have a bit of a chat with Yi about a dicey meeting I have tomorrow I am not sure how to approach :) and I may wait until this incompleted transaction settles before venturing forth to order the tablet somewhere else. (Trying my patience...?:)

One day i've asked the I-Ching a million questions about bying a new keyboard.

I had my keyboard with illuminated keys for 6 years or even more.
The problem was - the lighting conditions in my room have changed, more light in the evening(led lamp instead of halogen), less in the day(curtain on the window), and i had a hard time finding the right button.
The led color was blue on a grey button, which is hard to read when external light is brighter than illumination, but not bright enough to turn the illumination off completely.

I've found a logitech keyboard, with brighter leds, but the price was very high(70-80$), and the key layout was non-standard.
I've asked i-ching minimum 5 times about that keyboard. It gave me different hexagrams, some better some not. I've found another models, cheaper, rubberized and there wasn't a strong positive answer from IC.
I kept asking about each model and i think i've spent half-day on this process.

During a break, i had an idea - If i have more light now, do i really need led-illuminated keyboard?
IC said something positive.

Maybe i just need a simple black on white keyboard? IC said yes! finally.

Then i remembered i had some bonus-credit in one e-shop, and they had simple black-white keyboard (6-7$), and i was able to buy it 'for free', using my bonus.

The I-Ching have very patiently turned me around 180 degrees, and helped me to find ideal keyboard that i wasn't even thinking of.

What a really cool story! I chuckled, the Yi as a modern geek, with possibly better (more impartial) advice than Cnet reviews (oft sponsored)
might try that with my tablet issue (though I continue to have my eye on a specific model...)

Dog and I ended up in a store - without asking the Yi's blessing . Got the darn tablet -- definitely a want more than an absolute need. Decent deal. Wallet is a lot lighter, but contrary to when that happens because of the taxman, I got me a Christmas and Bday present YAY!

You know that would make an intriguing first line of a novel. Who wouldn't want to read on ?
