While I love reading you guys go back & forth on the "Best I Ching forum" topic I thought I would take upon myself to interrupt w/ a time check from the I Ching.

Candid, ever since I read about this it has fascinated me & encouraged me to check in more often for a better perspective on my life & of course more opportunities to pick all your brains on interpretations.

The majority of you that usually respond [please correct me if I am wrong] don't post about your own readings just help everyone else with theirs.
I suppose if I were as knowledgeable as you all are I might not share mine either...

SO back to the reading at hand.

When I asked what "time is it?" I received 6.2.9 > 45.

How should I interpret that to my bf relationship? Work? Other?

As for relationship questions, they usually draw a blank, clueless stare from me...

Now, for me this is more interesting and a very good observation. I don't think it to be a 100% true statement since I remember reading questions from seasoned users of the Yi here before. But yes, is mostly true.

In my particular case, when I do a reading for myself I reach my own conclusions about what the Yi is saying to me. My only help comes from other books and translations. When that conclusion is reached, it is mine and private and it is private because I don't usually allow conclusions of that nature to be debated. Perhaps it is a very chauvinist point of view but I learned to live with what my own capacity allows me to grasp.

Of course, when I started studying the Yi, the web was nowhere to be found and people who even knew what the Yi was even in less supply. The web is a great tool for speed learning subjects like this. At least the basics.

Luis,

*Smiles* I actually just got my watch fixed...finally!

I am here a lot more now then I used to be [rarely at all] so I have missed out on a lot of conversations before.

Perhaps it is a very chauvinist point of view but I learned to live with what my own capacity allows me to grasp.

I don't think it is so chauvinistic of you. I actually agree. I have a couple of books I look into but I also am not as experiences as the "seasoned users" are & value all the opinions from yourself & the others.

There have been a few times I've figured it out on my own & not asked for help but I am on a little more often & would like to learn from all of you as much as I can.

For instance. I notice everyone calls it Yi when I say I Ching. Is there a difference or what does that mean, Yi?

Thanks, Annie

type this: \quote

then add this bracket immediately after it {

insert the quote

include a closing bracket like this } right after the quote

and that should do it

"Yi" means the same thing as "I" in I Ching. I Ching (or Yi Jing, or Yijing) means something like "Classic of Changes" or "Canon of Changes", Ching or Jing meaning Classic, etc. By calling it Yi we refer to the book as simply "The Changes"...

Now, I'm sure Brad or LiSe should have more to say about this translation.

I think "what time is it" refers to yourself, and what you can or cannot do right now.
6.2 changes to 12, and talks about failing to contend and going back to your own people (300 doors, enough to find there).
And 6.6 changes to 47, like 12 not an invitation to embark on anything, and the line says it is useless to win by contending.
45 is about being among peers, or one with a group, again opposed to contention.

I'd think the Yi is telling you to take everything easy. A good time to relax and do nothing actively.

The character Yi is either an image of 'changing weather', the sun coming out from behind a cloud, or 'exchanging', pouring something from one vase into another.

That's a very nice description that I didn't know. Thanks LiSe. Almost like an alchemical process or the symbol for Aquarius.

Yi is the Pinyin (modern) spelling of I
Pinyin is pronounced Peenyeen.
Jing is Pinyin for Ching
Zhou is Pinyin for Chou
Yi is the Changes in general
Zhouyi (JoeYee) is the original book, from 800-1000 bce
Yijing is this plus the 10 Wings or appendices,
as it was canonized in the Han Dynasty
Yixue (YeeSchway) is the general study of the Yi

Wow, Thank you Brad for that!! How long has everyone here been studying Yixue?

LiSe,

I think that it is talking about my job. I start the new on Monday & been trying to get everything ready for my friend here taking my place. Perhaps I am trying to hard to do so. I was planning on staying here part time [once a week] since all that I do is next to impossible for a new person to take on.

I think I should just breathe a little more & not worry so much about it since I will be here at least once a week when I will be working Saturdays at the Bank. Hmmm...

or it could also easily be referring to my relationship [with my beautiful swiss-miss..ter] & not to try to push our relationship further then we are both comfortable with. I have a tendency to try to rush things in that regard. We?ve been together for a year & a half, everything?s been great so why try and push it when patience is so obviously a virtual I must cherish for us to grow naturally.

Luis,

I love your comparison of Yi to science & astrology. Very brilliant.

Thank you all as always, Annie

My guess is that the oracle is taking your question to mean, what's the situation now? What do I need to know now?

Two old versions of the character Yi, change.

I agree with Luis: alchemy and Aquarius. Looks like both, but maybe Aquarius is an alchemist.

Hi Annie...

It didn't happen to be 6:45 when you asked, did it?

Years ago I once asked when I was going to hear from my bf again. I got 10 to 27. I was puzzling over the answer when the clock clicked to 10:27...and the phone rang... it was my bf.

Love,

Val

PS... That answer is just one of the reasons I recommend not taking a static approach to reading the Yi as so many others here do recommend.

Well not for me it wasn't but it's possible that it was in this time zone.

I'm in US California time zone. so I don't know what the time difference for here is compared to this one. so it was around that time for this time zone.

doh! ;)
