I am a master’s level psychologist with a career spanning twenty-six years working toward my PhD. Three months ago, I was married to a beautiful career oriented woman. I thought I was happy. Then I met someone…or it would be more accurate to say, they met me. While I had been around this person for a period of several years in a professional capacity, we never had much physical contact. One day we innocently shook hands and then it happened, one of those rare life occurrences. Simultaneously, we both experienced a jolt of electricity. I say both, because she immediately looked at me with a look conveying a mixture of surprise and arousal and asked “did you just feel that”. Indeed, I had.

For me, it was life altering. Referred pain I’ve had in my neck for the last five years immediately disappeared and I’ve lost more than forty pounds of weight. The changes within me have been more substantial. Out of respect for my wife, I immediately communicated this experience with her (without identifying this person) and we separated soon after (no children by marriage). The has also set of a chain of events in my life as well with commensurate changes. To make sense of this, and a series of amazing dreams, I consulted a psychotherapist (PhD) who immediately directed me to the iChing.

For the last two weeks, I have, reading the blogs on this site with much amazement. So here is where the plot gets tricky, My love interest is in a relationship with a live-in boyfriend. While she professes to love me (and has expressed herself in many ways to support this), she has expressed concerns about causing him pain by disclosing our relationship. She too has consulted a spiritual medium who has advised her that she is at a transformational period in her life. She believes this, but is torn.

So at any rate, I decided to consult the iChing with very specific questions around this turn of events. I decided to wade out into the water with a simple question, not designed to test the universe, but nonetheless revealing. I asked what her feelings for me were at a specific moment in time, last Friday 7/26 @ 1:00P. The question: “[Name of my love interest]’s feelings for [my name] right now?” resulted in 27 with no changing lines. After getting this response, I received a text picture, of her with several summer squash at her feet. She had been tilling her garden and told me she had just picked these.

Following this experience, I asked a series of questions with powerful positive responses. However, I think the last is especially on target. I believe it represents a powerful positive hope. The question was: “The relationship of [my name] and [name of love interest] achieves new heights in love, desire, affection and commitment as an obstacle is removed” resulted in 61 > 42.

Am I correct for feeling this way?

Wow, what a story.

I am not sure I understood your second question (it didn't seem like...well, a question), but the answer does seem very positive in terms of the connection between you two. Maybe your act of separating from your wife will inspire her to leave her boyfriend.

Also, please feel free to ignore the following advice but I would maybe suggest avoiding questions where you are trying to figure out what someone else is thinking. Some people on this forum ask these, so I guess it's a matter of personal choice, but personally I'm one of those who wonder whether it's right to resort to means of divination when you could simply ask the other person what they thought of you. Seems a bit like spying.

I find the most useful questions for me are ones that deal with things I have control over like my own actions and attitudes, though I do tend to ask about events unfolding quite regularly too.

Kash,

Thank you for the guidance around asking about another. These kinds of do's and don'ts are helpful. THe second question was more an "us" question.

“The relationship of [my name] and [name of love interest] achieves new heights in love, desire, affection and commitment as an obstacle is removed” resulted in 61 > 42.

We speak all the time about everything. She has asked for my support in helping her reconciling parts of her life she has not had the courage to take on in years. She's a strong person with amazing healing qualities herself, but lives an extremely conflicted life in many respects. Her father committed violent suicide more than two years ago, something that has haunted her. She sought out my support to help make her father's gravesite more significantly more peaceful (had been unattended since his death). She has also asked that I accompany her to her father's ex-girlfriend's house to make a peace offering (they haven't spoken since his death). The list goes on and on. Ironically, what sparked my use of the iChing was a very vivid dream about her father. In it, I was his house building apprentice and he a master craftsman. After picking me up at my home, we travelled to a worksite... a field of tall grass where we walked together. After talking back and forth (we appeared to be close), I asked him if he would grant me his daughter's hand in marriage. He laughed aloud and told me I could. I then hugged him tightly.

Never had an experience like this. As a result of recanting this to my psychotherapist colleague, it was he who suggested I consult the iChing directly. So I have.

The experiences continue and intensify. That said, I appreciate the decorum you offered regarding the phrasing of questions. Thank you.
