Hi there...

This is a big weekend for me. I have a big decision to make here.

I'm trying to orchestrate my move so that I can maximize my time and resources. But, because of the unpredictability of my situation and some twists of fate, I've asked the Yi's help.

Much to my surprise, I haven't had my hours at work cut yet. Further, much to my surprise, Ms. Power Tripper has adopted a whole new attitude toward me....she's no longer a threat...the only threat remaining is the closing of the division at the first of the year. AND... because of the closing of the division, I've stayed rather busy...doing my part in the liquidation of the assets.

Consequently, I have no way of knowing when my hours will be cut. I want to be able to give notice on my apartment within thirty days before that happens, so that I can continue working as close to the time of the move as possible. So... ever since I made my decision, I've asked the Yi "Do I pay rent or give notice this month?" and up until now, they're said pay rent. However...

This month, they keep telling me not now. Monday is the last possible day to pay without incurring a late charge. Today I finally asked why they're encouraging me to put it off until the last possible moment, and they answered 61.1 to 59.

Are they scolding me for trying to get them to help with the knowledge they have that I'm not privy to? Are they telling me it's a secret? Is this the "thing that's hidden" in the Shen Shu verse 80? Is this a tough question for them?

I asked about the possibility of giving notice this time rather than pay the rent on Monday, and they answered 20.6 to 8.

Has anyone had real life experience with, and therefore rather keen insight into these readings? I'd love your thoughts on this. If any of you find any of these answers confusing, there have been a couple more twists of fate which have opened up a couple of other possibilities for me, and it's possible the Yi is addressing either one of those as well.

Decisions, decisions, decisions...what's a girl to do? ...*grin*

Thank you!

Love,

Val

Hi Val

I am probably not the one who has the deep insight you asked for here... but I wanted to express my concern and care to you in your difficult situation.

When I get Hx.8 it is nearly always because I am looking in the wrong direction or at the wrong things, or ideas. Or not seeing the situation properly. For me the Yi would be saying, "No, no, no! - Look at the situation again - think outside of the box or add in the facts that have not yet come to you."

Generally Hx.20.6 >8 would read to me as, "Look again at the situation - in a different way. Especially look at what the recent trends and events have brought you to.

Especially look at your deeper nature and the Dao that resides there and the way it does or does not fit into the time. Then look at those who are around you and in your life and the dynamics of which you are a part of there. By doing this you will see how to be and act, as well as the place in which to be the 'who you are'."

Both Hx.8 and Hx.20 are in the upper Cannon of the Yi Jing which has a prime focus on the Dao of Heaven rather than on the Dao of Humanity.

I wish you well in your difficult time - Difficult times can be very fruitful - when they are over ;)

Okay...

I got an email that alerted me to the fact I should clear up some confusion in my previous post.

Someone from a country other than the US didn't understand the either/or situation with the rent and 30-day notice to vacate.

I paid both my first and my last month rent in advance when I moved in. So when it's time to give 30 days notice, I don't pay the last month...I already paid it.

Is that better? Capiche?

Val

Val, there are two things which jump out at me from your reading of 61.

1. "forbearance toward inferiors; below, joyousness in obeying superiors. Such conditions create the basis of a mutual confidence that makes achievements possible."

2. "The force of inner truth depends chiefly on inner stability and preparedness."

In light of that I'd ask, is there yet a bias of the necessary mutual confidence regarding your plans? Or your work situation? If not, than it appears the time isn't right and that you may need to go another month for that bias to develop before 'crossing the great water.'

20.6 suggests raising your point of observation to an entirely objective view of the situation, removing the self interest. 8 as a backdrop suggests holding what you've got together.

I read this as keeping things intact until yet further developments ensue.

Val,

What is clear in both these answers that you received is that only you can, through getting in touch, make the right decisions. External advice can only suggest a possibility that you can try on emotionally to see if it fits well.

I get the impression that you are trying to force the situation rather than let it develope naturally. Is it really necessary to do something? Does something have to happen at just the right moment? What are the consequences of giving notice prematurely? What are the consequences of waiting until you have definite notice?

On a practical viewpoint, is there the possibility of receiving your last months rent (or at least a portion of it) back if you give notice in the middle of the month?

What I hear from your answers is "You do not need to force anything, that you will know when the right time is." "Do not fear making mistakes.
The fear is always worse than the mistake."

Val -

Laughing at myself. Just realized that the word used was "basis" and not "bias". And the reason I found the error was that I was pondering the word, bias. I think bias fits especially well.

Just for fun I looked up, bias.

2. textiles diagonal line: a line that runs diagonally across the weave of a fabric

3. electronic engineering voltage applied: the voltage applied across an electronic device, especially a transistor or valve, to determine the conditions under which it operates.

4. statistics distortion of results: the distortion of a set of statistical results by a variable not considered in the calculation, or the variable itself

I just changed out a set of power tubes in my guitar amp. They come as a bias set - matched in frequency and harmonics. It makes them work as one single unit.

And I work in the textile industry (see definition no. 1). My favorite costume period is the 30s and the 40s because women then wore a lot of satin cut on the bias...very sexy.

And thank you for your interpretation. I didn't imagine it was time yet because I still have my job, but I was a bit bumfuzzled (a new word I learned here...*grin*) the Yi has been insistent I wait until Monday to pay rent, and they have been insistent.

I was about to go out shopping earlier, and so tried again...one last time. I said, "While I'm out, I'll just pop by the realty office and drop my check off." They answered 21 to 35. ("I'm going to have to slap you upside the head if you don't work with me here!") so...

I said, "Arrrggghhhhh *banging head on desk* OK! OK! OK! I'll wait until Monday!" and they answered 35 ("Ahhhh good! You're working with me here...*grin*")

Of course they could have been referring to some other possible partnership rather than them...like with the realtor...or a job offer from somewhere I want to be...or...whatever.

It's not like I have to juggle finances either to pay the rent...*knock on wood*. Since I've been letting the Yi guide me in my financial dealings, things have been steadily improving. Consequently, I'm proned to listen to this most recent advice, though I can't make sense of it at the moment...especially if it's not time to give notice yet...*scratching head*

Thank you so much for taking the time to ponder this reading. Your interpretation has been very re-assuring. Apparently the Yi is saying what it has been saying all along. It's not time yet. With this reading, it's just adding that it will all develop naturally.

I posted because I just couldn't understand why they were telling me to wait on the rent, and I couldn't get anything from the castings I received.

I'm not trying to force anything. I'm trying to be alert to favorable signs. A person in my situation would be a fool not to take a proactive position. I won't go into details here, but that will become abundantly clear to you if you read my first post on this forum in the "Waiting waiting waiting..." thread, my post about verse 80 in the Shen Shu thread, my "Danger Danger Danger Will Robinson" post and a few others.

And yes...timing is of the essence. I have to be out of here by the winter holidays...or right after. This town is about to self-destruct.

Kevin...

You said, "Difficult times can be very fruitful - when they are over ;)" This has been an incredible and invaluable learning experience. I won't bore you with details...I'm saving them for a sort of autobiographical fictional novel...but adversity certainly has a way of knocking us off our soft little pampered asses and opening our eyes to life. I don't regret a minute of it. I can now say, "Been there, done that, got the t-shirt...AND the coffee mug."

Thanks so much for your input. I have a new way of looking at 20 and 8.

Hi there...

Update... I was just asked by a friend who's contemplating the mystery of it all with me, "Is it possible you will get laid off Monday?" Doh...*slapping forehead* They laid off another one of the people in the office on Friday. Maybe they're just waiting for me to finish a project on Monday. So...

I asked the Yi that very question, and they answered 43.3 to 58. Chris Lofting's interpretation (traditional) of that line is:

A successful person may need to flee times of misfortune but will come to no harm.

*crossing fingers* If all goes well Monday...it's showtime!

Mm - possible - see what you mean.

One small thought on 61, line 1: that it is truth to dispersion, to the sweeping-away of boundary markers, founding temples on wind and water instead...

The line is seriously multiply translated, but one version is 'Protected/guided/connected, good fortune. There is an Other, no peace.' Which suggests that by trying to weigh up decisions on sensible, practical grounds, concentrating on other people's decisions or rules, you could miss perceiving something important. Perhaps concern over the optimal time to give notice is the distracting 'other'.

Just guesswork.

21 to 35, by the way, is more 'no harm in not being able to move as fast as you'd like' - perhaps it even keeps you out of harm's way. I hope this makes sense in context!

"There is an Other" in 61.1. Hm, the characters are literally: there is snake. Like the expression "a snake in the grass". That is why Wilhelm translates as secret designs.

Not necessarily there IS a snake in the grass, it can just as well mean IF there is a snake.

Hilary and HeyLiSe...

Thank you both very much for your responses. It's very exciting unraveling this mystery and getting input from the sages here on the forum. I suspect I will know very shortly what's going on.

hmmmmmm....it appears this isn't talking about my "snake in the grass" plans of filing for unemployment as soon as my hours are cut and then running out of this town as fast as I can. It appears this is about someone else's secret designs. "Protected/guided/connected, good fortune" The Yi's secret designs maybe?

At any rate, I suppose I'll learn something between now and sometime before Monday at 5PM when the realty office closes. I'll be taking my rent check in before they close on Monday if nothing happens. If something happens, then maybe I'll be handing them a written 30-day notice instead...*grin*

Hilary...

Regarding 21 to 35...I was having fun with the translation...as usual. That's why I added the caveat afterward...about the possibility of 21.1 referring to some other partnership.

Thank you so much for your less "painful" interpretation.

All I know is I've had ample resources and opportunity to pay the rent since the 1st when it was due...the Yi has been quite clear that I shouldn't. And if it weren't for their sage advice about finances so far, I probably wouldn't have ample resources...so I'm heeding their financial advice yet again...even though it goes against my principles and better(?) judgment.

Took me a while to find this thread through the forum search. Since unemployment is such an issue for me, I've mentioned it in several threads.

I'm posting this to create a timeline to try to understand the Yi... looking at readings on the subject (above) and posting follow-ups to observe how things are transpiring.

The company closed down for the week of Christmas. I had the whole week off without pay which gave me my first opportunity to file for unemployment. I did. Now I wait to see if it's approved (should know this next week). I'm almost outta here... *grin*

Hi Shelley, LiSe, Michael and Soshin...

Sorry for my late thank you. I didn't realize anyone had posted to this thread in answer to my most recent post. It was just a "note to file" so I can track events to better understand in hindsight (for the future) what the Yi has told me. I had email notification turned off until I posted the 44 question. And then Soshin's post came through email after I turned it back on.

So...Thank you!

Love to all,

Val

hello all,

questionquestionquestion:

regarding 61 line 1, there is a snake in the grass (or could be) AND there is the appearance of the Wu tiger????

Is it like, something good shows up, and something equal to snatch it away? So be aware????

happy valentines day by the way!
