Dear community of the best site of the book of changes :)

I have to ask you again for your advice on two readings.
I was working on a project (the project I was hired for) that was terrible... I have hated these two years of work so intensely.

I work as a consultant for a firm I was handling the project for. I also do other project but that one literally sucked up half of my time and all my energy.

The project was supposed to be renewed but it will not. The third-party client praised the job, but they said they had no money. So now I am worried I will lose employment also on the other projects.

I asked the Iching, " what does it mean for my employment that the project is not renewed? and I received
12.4 to 20.
In reality I see this as a positive element (like I get a huge pression off my chest) yet it's not that I will receive another assignment or clear role straight away (20)

but then I asked the book how is my position within the company evolving and i received 16.1 to 51.
I interpret 16.1 as "do not worry before due time", but I am afraid of hexagram 51.
Am I getting fired anytime soon?

DO you have any insights on these readings or follow-up questions to advice?
Thank you!

Hi Elisabeth,

< " what does it mean for my employment that the project is not renewed? and I received
12.4 to 20. >

I think you are standing before a large change in your work life. 12 means Standstill, and from your comments it seems to me that those last 2 years were a standstill for you, since they drained your energy and did not let you focus on anything else.
Line 4 seems to be saying that the standstill is about to end, but that you need stand behind this change wholeheartedly ("The time of standstill is nearing the point of change into its opposite. Whoever wishes to restore order must feel himself called to the task and have the necessary authority.")
It seems from this, that the project will end, and something quite different will come along. Hex 20 points out that you should make an effort to actually watch out for this new opportunity with an open mind.

As for your follow up reading I must confess I find it hard to get a clear message out of it - 16 is one of those where I am still not sure what they are saying :) But the general tone seems negative, and say that even if you stay in the company, it will not be a smooth ride.

Maybe you could ask what the best course of action would be for you take with regards to further employment?

Hope this helps

Hi all

I have shown you no gratitude for your answer - and for that I am sorry. But so far I have no news to give.
Maui, you were correct in pointing out that I have lived in an emotionally draining professional limbo in the last couple years.
I am still in 12.4 I suppose - nothing has moved from the time being. I am trying to have an open mind and look around (there might be an opening at a friend's company).
Having said that, I am still with my old company and even if I have been given new assignments, it's still a rocky road.
I will keep you posted!
Blessings

I'd say 12.4 indicates there is a meaning to the standstill. You may not see how it can be a good thing but in some way it is...there is a 'mandate' in it. That is there is something there for you.

So 12.4 IMO is a time when it is actually the right thing to seem to be going nowhere. I think Bradford says of this line that happiness isn't always the measure of, or even relevant to, our progress. When I get this line I take it as a kind of assurance that though halted I'm still where I need to be.
