You should dedicate N times X days. That is, the more value the offerings of X have for you compared to other places you will be going, the longer you should spend there. 39 is river and hill. Is X on a hill near a river -- like Rome? 63 suggests a bridge across a river, which could be the clue to the specific answer you seek. You should dedicate as many days to X as there are main bridges across the river in X. (Or bridge-like structures if there is no river )

For different reasons it's a difficult one to plan.

Yes, as a straight answer it does sound a bit negative but I was specifically asking about timing and as I know some people can read answers regarding timing from the hex/lines given, I so asked.

... but isn't it interesting that all six moving lines of 39 state or imply that going forward is not favorable, and retreating or ''staying as one is" are favorable? Also favorable: 'to see someone big.'

Only in line 2, when we are advancing through difficulties in the service of someone else, is it acceptable to go forward, obviously because in that case we are under orders to go forward. That is, we are a servant, soldier, or subordinate. The implication is that if we have free will at all, we should halt and seek someone's advice on the question.

I find that almost everybody ignores the advice given by Yi to go ask the 'great person' -- to seek the advice of a real person. But the I Ching cannot possibly articulate all the complexities the way a real person can.

I get the feeling there's a lot more to this example than meets the eye. There are complications we don't know about.

this kind of background info must explained when you are looking for advice from other... your idea about, even if not asked... is to consider part of the question.
but any way... it seams that you will not able to spend 3 days and 3 night for it but less.

Both. "Three days and three nights" is a biblical expression (I take all lore to be equivalent) for a period of spiritual recovery. Town X has special significance for Owl. It isn't just a stopping place. Hexagram 39 is obstruction. Its lower trigram is rock. The fox of 63 - 64 represents ghost (gui), the vitality that continues after death in 63 and dissipates in 64. So in this case the archetype of 39/63 is Mark 16:3 (and many other paralleling allusions). I spent several hours on this query, and there are other considerations leading to the same end but too obscure to put into words.
