Timing question for Willowfox and others

I see Willowfox comment on how the oracle predicts when things will happen. I saw there's a thread about that. I haven't had time yet to study that whole timing aspect.

I asked:
what is the timing of our business success and my life success with my creative visions for what I want
and got
38.1,2,3,6 > 62
opposition > preponderance of the small

38.3 sounds uncomfortable: he is himself subjected to the shaving of his head and the cutting off of his nose

I would very much miss both my hair and my nose!! My new business suit would have to be a :bag:. For that matter I'd also worry about "the oxen dragged back" - problems with the Taurus transmission in reverse??

62: "It is not well to strive upward, It is well to remain below." Do I need smaller expectations? Time to hope for less?

Willowfox or others, any suggestions about how to interpret the timing and meanings here? Should I worry?

I don't know how to interpret timing from 38.1,2,3,6 > 62
Alfred Huang gives a lunar month association for each of the 64 hexagrams. He does not appear to say how he makes those associations (or perhaps I missed it). In any case he relates 38 to the 12th lunar month and 62 to the 1st lunar month. This corresponds to January/February of the Western calendar. Like you, I would be interested in learning more about timing.

No, you need not worry. The text of all the lines you drew is fairly positive. Who knows? You might enjoy a new haircut and nose job!

The lines suggest that you still have things to work out, it would seem that people are not in total agreement yet but does suggest good fortune in the end. But Hex 62 is a warning not to reach for the sky too quickly, take it easy to begin with.

Now for timing, Hex 38 gives a time around the last couple of weeks in December and Hex 62 give a time in the first week of January.

Some people on this forum disagree with this method and some were hostile in the past to it being used at all, saying fortune tellers know s*** about predictions and should not even make them. So up to you how or even if you wish to use my suggestions for timing.

Willowfox,

Can you give a reference for this timing method, or explain why those time periods relate to those hexagrams? I'd like to learn more.

Thanks Willowfox,

I read the other thread about calendars, and I see that it discusses how to go from a date to a hexagram, but I don't see how to go from hexagram and lines to dates. I'm genuinely curious and open to learn something new. Would you like to enlighten me and Tony with some basics about how you got to the date from the reading?

The best thing that I can suggest is that you have a look in John Blofeld's I Ching and at the back he describes the method and how it works. It seems to work for me anyway.

Thanks.
I dug out Blofield and found the table of calendar correspondences on page 225. Interestingly, four of the hexagrams correspond to quarters of the Chinese lunar year:
The first 3 months: 51
The second 3 months: 20
The third 3 months: 58
The last 3 months: 29
All the other hexagrams correspond to one lunar month.

I found a great freeware program that gives the Chinese lunar calendar (plus many others). This can be used with Blofield's table to pinpoint dates of each lunar month that correspond to each of the hexagrams. Here is the link:
http://www.download.com/Calendar-Magic/3000-2124_4-10496716.html?cdlPid=10814284

To test this method, I asked the oracle "when will my brother-in-law go to rehab?"
He is still in hospital for a serious heart attack and the doctors are talking about eventually sending him to a cardiac rehab facility. I asked the question on 10 May 2008 and got 63.1.4 > 31
The symbolism seems apt. #63 has to do with completion of a phase of life - he will be leaving the hospital to go to rehab. Freeman Crouch sees #31 as "feeling power in every limb" - an apt description of the rehab he will be undergoing.

According to Blofield, 63 corresponds to the middle 6 days of the 9th lunar month, and 31 to the final 6 days of the 4th lunar month. Using the calendar from the link above, I came up with two time periods:
October 10 - 16, 2008 (hexagram 63) and
May 29 - June 3, 2008 (hexagram 31).

Time will tell whether Blofield's instructions work out.

Hi Tony

Just in case the comment could be useful

Hi Tony

Following a diferent technique for calendaric calculations than Blofeld's

63.1 line ruled between december 16, 2007 and January 23, 2008 "He breaks his wheels." Did the heart atack had it's roots during those dates?

63.4 line is ruling right now, between april 8 and may 15, 2008. After a shock, "peace apparently reigns" (Wilhelm's comment on the line), but there is a need to "Be careful all day long.". Like fixing a boat with our ropes.

So, there is a great chance that the decision to send your brother in law to rehab would depend in whatever happen from now until middle may.

The heart attack occurred at the end of February. He was hospitalized on March 1st.

Can you say more about the technique you're using or direct me to a reference?

The decision to go to rehab should be made within the next few weeks.

mm THAT is interesting, indeed. With this technique, february is covered by line 63.2 and march 1st is the first day of line 63.3

It may be important to search what happened late december and January. There could happened something then (the roots of the present situation), that could have relevance during the time when line 4 rules.

Can you say more about the technique you're using or direct me to a reference?

I just googled John Blofeld's book and found this interesting visual analogy of the IC and the four seasons, each of which can be further defined by a month:

http://www.klbrun.com/calendar/twelve.html

It's an amazing visual orderly progression of looking at the changing lines of the IC.

Follow-up: My brother-in-law was released from the cardiac ICU to a rehab unit on Tuesday May 13, 2008. This gives a specific date to work with in testing various theories about timing with the oracle. He's nervous about the transition and I certainly hope it goes well.

Me too. However; i dare to quote myself once more

If the Yi gave enphasis to this line is because something is hidden (see Wilhelm's comment to line 4)

Thanks Jesed,

Your comments are quite interesting, and I appreciate your interest.
Just got a phone call (Thursday evening, May 15, 2008) that he was re-admitted to the ICU because of an extremely rapid heartbeat. This has been an ordeal for the entire family. I am relieved that he is back in the hospital and getting excellent care.

More to follow ....

Different hemispheres

When calculating times or months

Do you take into account what hemisphere you are in or would it be calculated alway the same as the chinese season.
Example the hexagram that stands for return 19 unchanging what date would that represent
If it stands for the begining of spring in china but in Australia it might be the opposite
The winter solstice is in June i believe here, or the beginning of spring is september

Any ideas anyone
