To 4.3>23 or to 7.2.3>15? Choices, choices.

It seems I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place.

I consulted the IC on whether I should contact a person or do nothing for the time being.

Contact X? --> 4.2>23

Do not contact X --> 7.2.3>15

4.2 is kinda humiliating, it seems to me I'm the fool, and the resulting hexagram, needless to say, is NOT GOOD.
7.2.3 sounds better (especially the 9 in the 2nd place), the resulting hexagram too, but that 3rd line changing worries me.

What say you?

Thanks in advance :bows:

Hex 4 is about learning - and teaching. When you get 4, the Yi is not derisively calling you stupid. You wouldn't look at the judgement here, but it points out the student seeks the teacher, and needs to have a proper respect in order to inherit the wisdom and experience the other possesses as a result of their own often hard journey.
4.2 This line/situation is auspicious, it has to do with teaching the learner with kindness, being tolerant, sowing seeds. This is good for the future. 23 has to do with separating the wheat from the chaff, reinforcing the image of seeds of kindness, creativity etc.

Do not contact X --> 7.2.3>15

This would make your superiors and team mates happy, as part of that circle. But the corpses the group carries are unfortunate. This would express your 15 humility to them.

I would think 4 is the more attractive reading. I personally care less for the opinions of others telling me what to do, to be humble in order to be in their social circle, than I do to learn, teach, raise people up, seek knowledge and kindness, our highest creative potential.

Your interpretation is very interesting - especially that of 23. I've always had negative feelings towards that hexagram, I can remember all the times I've received it - it was before break ups and partings.

Hexagrams aside, I agree with what you wrote in the end. A few days ago I asked the I Ching to give me a general outlook of the whole situation with this same person and I received hex 24.1.2. I assumed that either the circle is closing or that x would be the one making contact, but after your interpretation I'm not so sure this is what the I Ching was communicating to me.

hm.. I'd appreciate more thoughts on this!

When you get a single line, that's really the advice I think. The 23 is situational rather than a result in your casting I think, traditional comments are about a overripe fruit containing seeds for the future, this is pretty much the separating the wheat from the chaff idea - and fertilizer too. ;) Breakups are usually because one person is not what the other is looking for, but that works both ways we have to remember, in that we need someone who sees us as valuable and necessary too. Anyway the line is 4.2 "Bearing with fools with kindness" brings good fortune. It is preparation for the future. It is being kind.

I went out with a gal for while that we ran in to a couple of her old boyfriends. They both responded although they were with someone else, although partnered as if it hurt to see her, and it made no sense to me at the time given her narrative of things, how cheerfully she approached them. My point being how you deal with the person now, even if you are breaking up, even if you can point to their faults, sows seeds for the future. Being mindful of that now would be a good thing, especially if you are a somewhat visible public person.

You're probably right, I've been consulting the i ching for many years and I've always had such a sentimental approach towards the hexagrams. It's only after some time that I'm usually able to embark on more philosophical interpretations!

So I decided to act differently on this one and I made contact. No reply (not so far at least), but we'll see how this one plays out.

Thank you! :)
