Hi all,
Little background. I am a very curious individual and I LOVE learning new things. As I have gotten older I feel like I need to start making some decisions about what I want to spend my time on. I have posted about this struggle before...
So I have been working with the Yi for a few weeks and trying to weed my interests down to just a few main things. My partner and I are moving to the family farm in about 16 months and I have spoken to the local garbage guy about a job with him (he was interested in having me work for him) So I asked the Yi: "Your advice for doing art, garbage truck driving and homesteading?"
I received 16.6 > 35
What I think it means: this is a direction to go. but the lines "Enthusiasm in the dark" and "results bring a change of heart" bother me. Does that mean I am to sit with all this crazy energy and just see what happens? And then it changes to advancing???? Does that mean that I am pointing my ship the wrong way???
Any help would be really wonderful.
Thanks. :)

Garbage truck driving ? Somehow there sounds like freedom in that ! Power certainly, they hold up the traffic for hours around here

All that 16.6 calls for is a little more realism as you may have developed an overly enthusiastic vision here that the reality won't quite live up to. However once you realise the reality is perfectly okay you can go ahead.

I recall getting this for a job offer from an agency one time. I was very excited as I thought it would involve me sitting in all kinds of classes as a student support at the main site. What it actually involved was far more of a caring role with people wth learning difficulties. Later on I had some time in all sorts of classes but my initial vision of what I'd be doing was not especially close to the kind of work I'd be doing.

So this line advises you are in the dark a bit in terms of expectations about what this all means, but to go forward and find the reality of these plans. How you envisage these plans right now are missing a portion of reality, so great enthusiasm here is somewhat misguided.....but not totally misguided. This can still be good, once you have actually experienced what it all will actually be like. Not the same as you imagine now but still okay once you meet it as it is not how you might currently imagine it.

35 is not the result or the future....it's more like the context of the question which is progression of course. So in a timeof great progress you go a bit over the top in imagining how it will all be but once you get your feet on the ground and actually do it and see how it is ...well then you are still progressing :)

Actually often 16.6 asks you t scrape yourself off the ceiling...you might be a bit over excited...calm down.

LOL now I never thought I'd advise someone to calm down over the prospect of driving a garbage truck....but thats part of the whole 'vision' isn't it.

But you spoke of this "crazy energy' and what to do with it...well 16.6 can be crazy energy, OTT expectations...so chillax man

I quite like this line...it's a line that certainly asks you to come back down to earth which is quite calming and then one finds though the situation isn't quite as one imagined its still pretty good as it is

Oh!!! I can see that now. I am open to being more realistic about it-probably not as much fun as I am imaging- It is in the country so I am sure lots of boring hours just driving- but I do see that as quite a bit of fun and freedom... :) I know getting the licence is turning into quite a headache... :(

OK I get this. I am excited about the prospect but I have never actually drove a big truck- somewhat scarey too...

Feet on the ground. Got it. I will work on that. :)

Once I stopped laughing here I could respond. Never did I imagine someone telling me to calm down about driving garbage truck either. Still laughing about it.. :D

I can definatly accept this. I can let go of the vision as long as the reality is pretty good too... Thank you a million times over. I think I need to meditate somemore... :)

In many ways I agree with what trojan's saying, but I will add that, while the line says manage your enthusiasm, the overall meaning of the hexagram emphasizes enthusiasm. By its association with Progress, it seems to say "the key to progress is enthusiasm". However, another translation for 16 is Providing, so it could be saying "the key to progress is providing for progress".

But here's the thing, this doesn't really specify anything about the three things you mentioned (doing art, garbage truck driving, homesteading), it just says something about what all three have in common. While the answer you've already received is definitely worth exploring and listening to, if you want more in depth answers concerning each one, maybe try posing three separate questions:

"Your advice for doing art?"

"Your advice for garbage truck driving?"

"Your advice for homesteading?"

Yes agreed ..its like you are seeing the whole vision K, getting excited but may need to look at each one seperately. Infact the process of doing that would possibly remedy to a degree the general frenzy. It might slow you down and bring everything into focus a bit more.

I have a great nephew age 2 and he gets very excited by big garbage trucks so you are not alone

Thank you for your help. I think I am understading this... If I give these things my attention and "enthusiasm" I will naturally have progress?!!

I will do that. This thread might get long...

"Your advice for doing art?"
I received 3.1.5.6 >23 So I am guessing that this is not the main direction I need to go. It will get out of control I will forget myself. It is something I can still do for me of course but not as something that will provide me with any stability or... what's the word... well income I guess.

"Your advice for garbage truck driving?"
I received 50.2.3.6 >16 So I have a bit of confliction here. A vessel this is good and it has real things in it but I am unapproachable??? People are not eating the fat but it is very fruitful... All the way back to enthusiasm. This could be good... A bit of that reality coming in... :)

"Your advice for homesteading?"
I received 13.5 >30 This one seems positive- lots of frustration but good in the end. With flashes of truth.

 Thanks I think... :) When I was small my dad worked for the county as a mechanic- I got to get up in one of the semi trucks once and NEVER wanted to get down. It was awesome!!!

Mmm my take is possibly you need to give your art alot more time to develop and grow. You can't hurry it's progress. Take your time, don't give up too soon. To me this looks a bit like giving up...and you may sort of give it up for a while but that might be because during that time you shed a whole artistic style or persona....something else is being born so you need patience with this for a bit of a rebirth. I agree it doesn't look like a source of income yet.

Oh this is fantastic ....this is the best answer of the lot  yes the garbage truck has stuff in it but yeah people don't generally like to go too near it. Seriously though great answer. There is something stable and nourishing in this idea . There is nothing here about you being unapproachable. 50.2 may alert you to others being negative about this idea but that can't hurt you. 50.3 it takes some time to get the full benefitof this idea, things aren't quite aligned yet but they will be. 50.6 well thisis a wonderful skill that enriches greatly. You must start writing "The Tao of a Garbage Truck Driver"

There's just something really good about this idea...it takes you places...and I mean not just to collect garbage ! Maybe its a skill, truck driving thats very enriching for you.

This is for homesteading (is that like farming ? its an american term isn't it ?) Hmm yes there's struggles, and I've had it more than once for struggles with bureaucracys, but it's worth it. Don't be dismayed by legal/beaurocratic/ hassles etc etc they can all be resolved.

I did not mean it to sound like giving up that is not it at all. It feel very crysalis like right now. I am still doing stuff and will continue but I don't want to poke it too much. I am all for letting this mature.

:D I love this.. Makes me feel lighter just reading it. I would love to write that book. I am very hopeful with this. :)

Sorry! yes it's like farming but on a smaller scale- we are hoping to be as self suficient as possible. Grow our own food- sell some too but it is a BIG job.
Thank you again for your insights. I feel calmer already but still very excited. :D

Dear Kimbenes7,

I agree with Trojan, absolutely, just want to add a few bits and bobs.

I find it really interesting how coherent your readings are, I can see a pattern there (maybe it is just me;) what I mean is when you look at your hexs and lines as a whole, I mean when you look at them as a big picture, you can see the pattern, difficulties here and there, obstacles to overcome, a bit of hassle here and there, hard moments here and there, struggle, but everything clearing up, unblocking, transforming.

Hex 13.5 is my favourite hex/line ever, in the past it brought me to tears , literally, for personal reasons. It tells about hard work paying off, about dear friends being reunited, about relationships going through thick and thin to succeed. It is poetic and beautiful by itself;)

And Hex 3 line 6 is so comforting, just when you think that it is not gonna happen, you are just about on the verge of giving up, this line comes to rescue you.

As I said, your readings seem nicely connected.

Hope that helps:bows:

Thank you so much for taking the time to give feedback. :)

I am not seeing it yet but I am going to trust you for now. I usually have better insight when I let a reading sit for awhile. Let it fester so to speak... ;)

This line still makes me a little uncomfortable but I am working with it.. :) I am not a big crier. A big feeler certainly but not good at expressing it.

And Hex 3 line 6 is so comforting, just when you think that it is not gonna happen, you are just about on the verge of giving up, this line comes to rescue you.
I love that. There have been many, many, many times I have thought about or tried to give up on my art. It is something that "just is" for me. If I can learn to live with it (working on this) and just let it be what it is than I am sure that I will have a break through or at least learn how to let it live. I went through 4 years of art school and much of it was about how to market yourself how to sell your work and really I just want make it - give it life. If others like it great. if not that needs to be ok too. It's hard to re-train your brain. :)
Thank you again for your insight. I am going to look for the patterns. :)
