I have a question, I only recently shifted to the coin toss method of interpretation and I want to know if this is correct. I have read differently that Heads should be 2 and 3; I have also read differently that 8 is broken and 7 solid (or 8 is solid and 7 broken).

I have been following this system -- is it correct?
Heads: 2
Tails: 3

solid: 7 and 6
broken: 8 and 9
changing: 6 and 9 (ie 3 heads or 3 tails)

Others have told me 8 should be solid and 7 broken...which is it?

Two heads (4), one tails (3), equals lesser yang (7); two tails (6) and one heads (2), lesser yin (8). Three tails greater moving yang (9). Three (6) heads equals greater moving yin line. Tails count 3, heads 2 or, I imagine you can assign any side 2 and other 3 so long as you are consistent.

I do it the other way about. For me 3 heads is a changing yang line and 3 tails is a changing yin line but it really doesn't matter at all which way about you do it, which value you ascribe to heads or tails as long as you stick to it. Once you decide you get your answers accordingly.

I'm glad you are trying the manual way of casting. The problem with people only ever having used that online tool is sometimes even after a year they have no idea what they actually cast..which lines are changing and so on..or sometimes even what a changing line is so naturally that impacts on how much they can get out of their answer

Thanks. I am not yet far along enough that I understand the "yin" and "yang" as they relate to numbers...that part still confuses me, so for now I have been ignoring it just to try to get the tosses right and get some interpretation. I focus my own readings on changing lines plus resulting hex (as i guess most here do as well).

I understand how to assign the 2 or 3 to H or T, (for me 2=H, but i know, trojan, you do 3 as H) and then that 6 and 9 are moving. I guess where I am confused is if 8 is broken or solid. If my 2=H then does that tell you what 8 should be (broken or solid)??

For example, this is what i tossed this morning:

HTT 233 8 (broken)
HHT 223 7 solid
HHH 222 6 solid changing
TTT 333 9 broken changing
HTT 233 8 broken no change
HHT 223 7 solid.

However, i read here: http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/I_Ching_community/e-answers39.html#diy
that it is incorrect and that the 7 is broken, the 6 is broken, and the 8 and 9 are solids (??)

My reading gave me 17.3.4 so then this other way would be different, no?

Did i do it wrong?

No . Different books will assign different values to heads or tails...it really doesn't matter at all as long as you stick to the value you decide on

a broken line is a yin line, a solid line a yang line......

anyway I am hopeless at explaining this kind of thing so someone else can try

all i can say is don't panic about your 53 reading. if you had decided before the cast which combinations of sides were going to be 6's or 9's or whatever then thats valid and your 53 holds

I just had a really horrible piece of news (romantic-wise) :-( and it aligns more with retreat than with gradual anything... But I hope, trojan, that you're right and that 53 with lines 3 and 4 holds.

33 is only retreat to a safe space, away from anything harmful,

I love getting 33, its relaxing....even if you did get 33 it wouldn't be horrible....and anyway bear in mind how often relationship type answers change.

a question getting 33 this week won't necessarily be getting a 33 in a few months time.

i think you need to to start telling yourself that everything is alright

repeat after me

everything is alright

everything is alright

then have a glass of wine

I'm a believer anyway in taking the answer you think you got...to a degree

you took it as 53 because 53 was the right answer for you then....

Thanks - yeah tears. And they wont seem to stop. Hug needed & much appreciated.

I have done the past few weeks of readings w/coin tosses but apparently i got 2 of the lines in the "answer key" wrong for all of them.

I'm so so tired of all this struggle and nothing comes of it. Sorry...
