I know this is a left field question but I am hoping Poccossin can come up with the answer as he is pretty good with left field stuff.

Anyway the story is when I change into 3rd gear in my kombi it is making a bit of a grinding noise and sometimes I am losing the revs very slightly.

Why am I having problems changing into 3rd gear - Hex 35.6>16

Advancing with one's horns means to attack a city. Danger, auspicious. Without fault. Determination distress.
Who advances with a big blare of trumpets should be doing something real substantial, with actual results. Very often all the noise accompanies the birth of just another big enterprise which bleeds to death prematurely. Be on the alert, it might be nothing – or it might really be the big bounty.

So I am thinking 'bleeds to death prematurely may be a lack of oil or it may be something big - let's hope it's the former.

anyway I know it's a random question but I am hoping someone might be able to help.

thks be joyous Liss

Just to add to this cause I have gathered some info from other kombi heads like me - cld be the clutch cable becoming slack - either needing tightening or it is fraying somewhat, water in the gearbox oil or the gearbox itself! thks

Why am I having problems changing into 3rd gear?
35.6>16

The casting suggests to me that the gears are not being synchronized properly. 35 (left field view) is an infant-mother picture. In a transmission the mother would be the gear supplying the power, and the child would be the gear receiving the power. 16 is about things fitting together, as in line 4. The horns of 35.6 are like the teeth of a gear, and "To be conscious of danger brings good fortune" suggests that it is good that you are aware of this problem and are looking for a solution. Transmission problems can be expensive. I looked at a few Kombi sites and found this:

http://www.fixya.com/cars/t1903146-gear_change_problems

Gear change problems:

Cannot get into 1st and 3rd gears. Other gears fine including reverse.
can get into 1st sometimes if gear stick is pushed hard.
I have a VW 2007 T5 Kombi (Microbus) 1.9 TDi This desn't show up in your drop down menus.

Solution:

check the linkages. there is a plastic ball in the first link and second link , i think u will find the problem there
