Trying a new (old) course of study - hexagram 38.6 to 54

I asked if I should give a PT course I enrolled in last year 2020 another go.

Response 38.6 to 54 - Opposing Marrying Maiden.

This Personal Trainer course is one I signed up for after not wanting to do a different course I had signed up for before it Social Work 2018 - I had passed two years of it, and I was going to try finish the next two years of Social Work in 2021-2022 but have already decided against it due to how the line of work has already negatively affected me in the past.

I can't figure out if 38.6 is saying I should give Personal Training course another go or not.

PT was a second choice, and as a career Personal Training (Health/Fitness) would be a more positive work environment than social services.

I enjoy going to the gym and eating well etc and could help others do the same.

I gained 27 kilos during social work study and lost all that weight when I took a break from that study in 2019.

In the context of hex. 54 (Legge translation; Propriety indicates that action will be evil, and in no wise advantageous) 38.6 could be seen as a way of saying to you, you might consider continuing Social Work.

38.6 Legge: The sixth line, dynamic, shows its subject solitary amidst the prevailing disunion. In the subject of the third line, he seems to see a pig bearing on its back a load of mud, or fancies there is a carriage full of ghosts. He first bends his bow against her, and afterwards unbends it, for he discovers that she is not an assailant to injure, but a near relative. Going forward, he shall meet with the genial rain, and there will be good fortune.

What you first see as unwanted (continuing Social Work) will in the end be a good choice.

Why not ask the Yi what the effect/outcome will be for each choice?

I actually realised that from the last time I studied social work in 2018 until two weeks in now in 2021 - one of the reasons I took a break is because I despise the tertiary education system and academic environment. I am of native/indigenous descent where I come from and so I feel oppressed by the whole process of becoming educated on how to "professionally" help people.

A few years ago in another thread Trojina suggested I ought to try a non-traditional career pathway / business etc.. But during my years off study I worked in social services as a semi qualified worker and because I felt I wasn't being listened to in that role - I thought okay I must need to finish my degree...but then I realised the job, people I work with and for would constantly bring me down.

I also do not enjoy giving my time and energy to read/ study theory, depressing case studies and thinking about the type of work and agencies I would become a part of once qualified...

The way I see it, I would like to have a better quality of life and rather than trying to help other people sort out their own lives as a social worker... I could just be a decent human being who is kind to others and does my bit for society by not being an arsehole and hopefully that would rub off on people - rather than being in some holier than thou titled and qualified position

I think as I had a childhood full of trauma, I could make better use of the rest of my days just by looking after myself and my family - teaching my children to be good people and treating any people who cross our paths with as much love and respect as possible within safe boundaries.

I asked what effect if I were to continue Social Work study - hexagram 16 unchanging.

I have no desire to do 3000 word essays on boring theories and policies etc. I prefer to sing, dance and have a good life with my children.

I can do some form of community service without a degree. So if not personal training - perhaps a social enterprise of some sort, with a health/wellness focus.

Isn't what you are telling in your post above exactly what line 38.6 is talking about .
You see the educational system and what you can do with the training as not relevant or not relating (carriage full of ghosts), but line 6 shows that when you give up your resistance, what you believed was negative and/or against you, actually can help you ( a near relative) and there will be good fortune in the end.

Hex. 16 seems to tell you to find a way in which you can let the system work for you instead of against you

Hex 16 Legge: Enthusiasm indicates that feudal princes may be set up and the army advantageously mobilized.

The feudal princes and army to me are helpers that can provide assistance to change things for you so you van continue Social Work.
Is it possible for you to talk to someone from this training and tell them your doubts and frustrations?

Studying takes away my freedom and the ability to earn an income and enjoy my life with my children - that's the main thing.

In particular I've never enjoyed submitting the "required" weekly course work every week to demonstrate understanding.

If they just left me alone and allowed me to work on the assignments only, then I would be much happier to do so.

I sent an email to them on Sunday my time to quit degree, it is now early hours of Monday here - and only if they do not ask or make me do anymore weekly time consuming and boring course work would I consider continuing.

They call it helpful - but I know who I am, what my strengths are and how I best work - I prefer on the job training and collaborating at the end in the real work force ... I truly don't need to relearn stuff I've already figured out. It's kind of dumb reading stuff you already know, rewording it just to prove you know what you know.

I'm more frustrated than "non-humble" - though it may come across that I'm a know it all - the more texts I read ... The more annoyed I am because majority of it is common sense and the qualities / skills that they are trying to entrench into social workers are ones I already have.

Btw - I haven't been sleeping well - so excuse this rant

Meltingpot247, I loved reading your rant, but I am no feudal princes and for an army I am not enough people .
Find this feudal princes/army (a dean or a career counsellor?) and give them the same rant. You might be surprised.

Update: I have since calmed down and I'm in class today

I was so adamant that this degree was the bane of my existence a few days ago - but there are other issues I'm trying to sort out which are my true problems and eventually this degree will be used to make changes and to come up with solutions, not just for myself but others too.
