Hi there,

I hope someone would like to help me with the interpretation of the i ching.
I let my dad cast the coins today.
He has had a a cancer part of his intestine removed in september this year. As the doctor still saw 2small spots he is not sure of, he adviced my dad to take a preventive chemotherapy, twice a month.
Tomorrow my dad has it first session. And therefore I wanted to consult the i Ching.
He got 24.6 -> 27.
I understand there is a strong warning for him but I can't seem to understand it properly. I think I'm too emotionally involved to see the bigger picture here.
Would someone please help me?

Many thanks!
Namaste,
Virginie

Hex 24 'Return'
The time of darkness is past. The winter solstice brings the victory of light. This hexagram is linked with the eleventh month, the month of the solstice (December-January).

Yes the therapy would help, and i think very soon, by the end of January.

Line 6: "Missing the return. Misfortune. Misfortune from within and without."
If a man misses the right time for return, he meets with misfortune. The misfortune has its inner cause in a wrong attitude toward the world.

It says - You are too late, your father didn't have to lose part of his body, if only he 'returned' earlier.
I thinks it speaks of proper nourishment, healthy food and eating habits (hex 27). If your father eats properly the problem will go away forever.

Virginie, I'm so sorry you and your Dad are going through this. I don't know what your reading means in medical terms, but I can see one aspect of it that might be useful: the warning against 'mobilising armies'. There's lots of rhetoric about 'fighting' cancer - which is all very well, but what if life gets turned into one huge fight that devours all your energy and resources? What's left?

So... I think the reading nudges you away from the 'fight it with all you have and all you are!' mindset and towards a bit more relaxation, a bit more space for simple enjoyment of life. Life isn't meant to be a military campaign.

I am so sorry that you and your father are going through this. I went through a similar situation with my own father recently.

What was the exact question you and your father asked? When I've drawn this line in the past, it was a strong warning for me against missing the point where I had to do a full 180 on something. I remember the first time I got it very clearly. I didn't heed the warning, didn't do a 180 and something that I wanted and could have had was lost to me and never recovered. If the I Ching is telling your father to have a change of attitude about something, then the question itself should give you a clue as to what that is.

I hope the treatment goes OK. Watch for the 2-3 day after each treatment, then about a week after. The 2-3 day is when the steroids wear off so the patient begins to feel worse then. The chemicals spread by the week after, so that's when they feel worst for a few days. In between most people can feel absolutely fine.

I see 24.6 as telling you that although chemo seems drastic, it is necessary in order for your dad to Return to full health. Don't delay, don't miss this opportunity.

Hello,

This is an awesome reading. Yi is "tellin' like it is". Chemo is very aggressive. Many things can be solved by changing one's habits and especially diet. There are a lot of materials online you two can read, and it's obviously worth trying. Try a macrobiotic diet! Go gluten free!

I wish you success!

Thanks everyone for your advice.
My dad is handling his first chemo session very well. Too well according to his doctor.
They are talking about raising the amount and maybe change the type of chemo.

I have had my doubts about the chemo al the way. But my dad follows his doc blindly. He says he wants to use every mean to be successful. He has been through 6 operations since august this year. Not only for the cancer but also for a double bypass. He has been through a lot of pain and now he just wants that all his efforts haven't been for nothing because he would decide not to do the Chemo.

It's hard because you can never be sure what the right decision is. And also I can't make the decision for him.

Someone asked what my dad's question was. He had non, I've let him meditate on all what has happen, his fears and hopes while casting the coins.

Many thanks to you all for giving your advice/opinion!

Love,
Virginie
