Fwiw, I tried for two hours to log in as meng. I must have changed my password to one I had forgotten, and was caught in a constant loop of trying to reset my password through email. I had to create a guest user on this computer to access the webmail site, but meng was still inaccessible here. On a whim I signed on as a new member using an old handle, sooo. Hope I don't get fined for it. :)

Maria, I believe that prompt is a feature of the browser. My firefox occasionally asks me if I really want to leave a page that I accidentally or intentionally attempt to close. I find it's sometimes annoying, but it can also save a post by clicking 'no', do not leave this page.

it happens when I press the "post quick reply" button , Bruce. Sometimes it let me "go Advanced" so I can post and other I get in a 29.3 position. It saves the post but you can't actually post it.

no big deal tho... just some lost gems of wisdom :p ( kidding :D )

probably you are right as there are some changes in the browser I use and the layout "message" has change a bit

It went through a phase, for me, of issuing dire warnings about leaving the page when I clicked 'post'. I don't know what causes or cures this particular neurosis of Chrome's, I'm afraid. I think if you just confirm you really do want to leave the page, it'll post as normal. (But yes, copying the post to the clipboard first can't hurt, can it?)

I use Chrome and have not had this problem in years and never expect to have it again. I type nearly everything I post into Wordpad and then copy and paste to Clarity, just as I am doing this. Beside having no worry about losing text, I also keep a record of everything I have posted to a readings thread. I confess that I am a pack rat (not just with computer files), but this compulsion means that I never encounter a frequently posting querent unprepared. Files are named by querent and casting. For example:

anemos 5 34
anemos 10 61
anemos 21 24
anemos 36 37
anemos 43 34
anemos 58 1

I have recommended this system to others because it is an extraordinary advantage. It is the difference between meeting an old friend and a new acquaintance that one must learn anew.

@hilary : Yes, I was fed up so I clicked on "leave the page" and it posted it.

@Tom : I have to confess that it fells pretty weird that my posts are in a folder in someone's else computer but when the time comes to put in an order about 500+ G of articles and book I know to whom I give that delightful task.

search option?

Hello, my apologies if this has been mentioned before, but the search option isn't working for me anymore. The search results come up empty. Does anybody else have this problem?

I doubt Hilary will see this so I recommend you message her. The search function seems to work fine for me, well the hexagram search does at least. The actual forum search has never seemed to work too well anyway.

I used the forum search for looking for hexagrams. It gives other results then the hexagram search does. I never had much trouble with the forum search until the last couple of days. I'll message Hilary. Thank you Trojina.

[Edited: It just registered with me that you said searches which previously worked for you, have stopped working in the past couple days. That might be a different matter from what I put below. Below is about things which forum search just doesn't do well, but there are other options which handle them better.

I agree with Trojina that forum search doesn't seem entirely broken, at least not for me (and Trojina). I just tried a keyword search on the word "search," and got a list of results which seemed relevant, judging by the word "search" in many of the titles.]

Hi Persephone and Mazaru,

I remembered I started a thread about much the same issue a few years ago. (It's now well-buried below newer threads, of course.)

Here it is:

http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/frie...ng-no-results-when-using-Advanced-Search-form

It might help to read through it in case something in it helps you. At least you'll know what was discussed. A conclusion was that, as Trojina said and you've already found out, forum search doesn't always work well for things an I Ching forum member would want to search for, such as hexagram numbers.

The solution is to use hexagram search. By some magic I don't understand, hexagram search works splendidly.

Just to see if anything's changed in the meantime, I just now tried doing a sample forum search with the following parameters:

First, start from scratch:
Select "Clear Search Preferences" from the dropdown box at the bottom of the page, and press "Go."
Then click on both Reset buttons.
Then select the "Multiple Content Types" tab.
Search Types: All Types (this will put checkmarks in all the boxes)
Keywords: "hexagram 24" (with the quotation marks, so it looks for the whole phrase)
Dropdown box: Search Entire Posts
Let everything else alone, and click on "Search Now"

There is a list of results, but none of the titles even mention hexagram 24. Click on the first result. Search terms are highlighted - but notice that the only word highlighted is "hexagram." It did not find the two instances of the number "24" which are on the page. (The original poster had made 246 posts.)

So as that other thread said, forum search simply does not find numbers, at all. The best suggestions seem to be (1) hexagram search, and (2) Google custom search at the top of the Sitemap and search page (link at the bottom of all forum pages).

Hope that helps a little.

I've tried searching for a longer word and that works fine, so it is just hexagrams that is difficult. Thank you for your help :)
