I've been home with a flu for the last few days. Sitting here all sore throaty and drizzled, I asked the Yi, is this serious enough to seek medical attention, or can I just ride it out and be okay. Answer: 17.2-58

I figured a couple of different ways to interpret it, and they would all be beneficial. But I focused on Wilhelm's typically stern rebuke this time, and thought it would be better to defeat the bug by being the strong man, not the small child who requires help. Within and without, that meant to seek higher ground.

So, I looked for something greater than how I physically felt, and recalled this link. I think Jonathan put a thoughtful group of quotes from the Warrior sayings of Don Juan. He sure was direct. After reading it I thought others might enjoy it too, both those familiar with the early Castaneda series and those who aren't.

6. Fate

Is this serious enough to seek medical attention?
17.2 > 58

Three Lake trigrams in the casting. If fluid isn't accumulating in lungs or ankles and no heart palpitation, I'd say, steady as she goes. But if you hit a patch of rough water and symptoms worsen, then medical attention immediately.

Tom, good observation. What did the "6 fate" imply?

I haven't had a flu shot in 15 years, managed to get by. This year's flu is a real doozie; I had to chuckle at your "if you hit a patch of rough water" because the entire cycle of this one is one rough patch over another, skipping no bases. Brutal. It now has me wondering if "the strong man" refers to the strength of this year's bug.

Another observation I'll share, just for G.P. At the beginning of stomach wrenching phase from last night, just before shutting my computer down, head spinning, eyes unfocused and vision blurred, equilibrium of a drunken sailor, I was becoming worried that I may be having a stroke. I asked Yi, what is happening now inside me? Answer 16. I thought of 16.5 (persistently ill but does not die) and thought, there must be a connection between 16 and illness experience. What followed was an hour of violent storms (thinking of your water connections), with seas gradually becoming less threatening, and then settled enough to sleep. One consideration is that 16 refers, first, to the state-of-mind about the passing illness, i.e. anxiety, rather than to the illness itself. I do see a direct link between 16 and illness. I'm just not sure where it is or why, unless it's all emotion.

Oh, speaking of emotion, that brings me back to the original relating hexagram, 58. My view of 58 is that it's where our emotions and temperament are located; in the youngest daughter, Dui, a source of joy and melancholy, as Wilhelm implies. I call it moods also... the young girl is moody, melodramatic, romantically available. All tied to emotion.

I can relate to that, as a metaphor and as a literal description. To me it feels as disembarking from that boat and reaching that tiny island were things are calmer. Its connecting with that small spot within , which is warm and strong and takes some fears away, the god within , as I call it.

What is the "6 fate"? About blurred vision, if you are going heavy on the beer, it may cause serious dehydration and loss of consciousness. Regular cokes are sometimes recommended for the flu and help with the nausea.

Ookay, I guess. I didn't mention blurred vision until after your post. To be clear, I drink one beer or small glass of wine per day. This was not that kind of blurred vision. It was a huge effort to click the mouse six times to get the 16 reading, and then I shut it down, and the storm immediately followed.

I still don't see what "6. Fate" had to do with this.
