Today's Massachusetts Democratic primaries have two tightly watched races.

In one, the incumbent, Richard Neal, is being challenged by Alex Morse.

Now, Morse’s chances of victory in today’s primary against Neal?
26.1.3 Taming Power of the Great > 4 Not Knowing
.1: “Danger is at hand. It furthers one to desist.
.3: “A good horse that follows others. Awareness of danger, with perseverance, furthers. Practice chariot driving and armed defense daily. It furthers one to have somewhere to go.

Neal’s chances?
41.4 Decrease > 38 Opposition
.4: “If a man decreases his faults, it makes the other hasten to come and rejoice. No blame.”

Now neither of these are terribly clear readings, and perhaps they portend a race which will be contested with mail-in ballots and the like and will be dragged out. Overall, however, it seems to me that 26 is a more favorable hexagram for winning an election than 41 is. So I predict Morse wins after a dragged-out fight and recount.

Then there is the race between incumbent Senator Ed Markey and challenger Joe Kennedy.

Markey's chances?
34.1.3 Controlled Power > 40 Liberation
.1: "Power in the toes. Continuing brings misfortune. This is certainly true."
.3: "The inferior man works through power. The superior man does not act thus. To continue is dangerous. A goat butts against a hedge and gets its horns entangled."

Kennedy's chances?
15.1.3 Modesty > 24 Return
.1: "The first line, magnetic, shows us the superior man who adds temperance to his temperance. Even the great stream may be crossed with this, and there will be good fortune.
.3: "A superior man of modesty and merit carries things to conclusion. Good fortune.

Though I would ordinarily simply take the good fortunes of the moving lines in 15 as superior to the warnings of 34.1.3 here, I actually feel Kennedy is the opposite of the modest man here. He is all about self-promotion. Whereas Markey is basically quite aligned with the caution of Controlled Power. Perhaps I am biased by knowing that this is the general consensus among pollsters -- always a danger -- but I believe Markey wins.

I know nothing about these candidates but...
41.4 Decreasing faults and people coming to rejoice - Did Neal do anything while in office that he needed to explain or apologize for? Or did he run his campaign in such a way that he had to make some major adjustment? Or is this line what makes you think there may be some fault with the voting?
38. Opposition. Success in small matters only.
So I agree, this doesn't look all that good for Neal. Ohh, but now I wonder is this saying "success in the primary, the small matter, but not in the actual election?" But I'm so often wrong when trying to use the IC to predict!

Rats, no time to complete this now. Let us know!

Well, there was a kind of fake sex scandal that some Neal supporters essentially ginned up against his opponent, Morse. Unclear whether they did it with his support, or merely to impress him. Neal certainly didn't apologize for this, but he essentially did avoid mentioning it more recently.

And the update: both Markey and Neal won. Unless something strange happens in counting any further mail-in ballots or something...

Hindsight is 20/20.
Now it seems obvious the I Ching was predicting Neal:
He was able to 41.Decrease 38.Opposition.
Morse, 4. The Inexperienced, was 26. Restrained.

Markey 34.Controlled the Power leading to a 40.Breakthrough.
Kennedy could do no more than 15.Modestly 24.Return Home.

Indeed, that's beautiful. And hindsight is indeed 20/20 :D.
