But what will the average punter think when he/she sees this word? Won't even know how to pronounce it, is my guess.<!-/quote-!>

Uh? Dobro, read again the name of the poster. It's me, man! It was a joke! Nobody will try to separate Anglos from their English, least of all, me...
biggrin.gif

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm about to take a plane to California to woo a certain blonde, who shall remain nameless (oh, the scandal otherwise...), and convince her that some red wine, dark chocolate, a quiet conversation and fishing dreams in each other eyes are OK, once in a while... Everything else, and even that, is transient...(grab your Yi books) Who knows, she may convince me to pile up years quickly, or, I could use my wizardry powers and bring her down to my very youthful level...

Luis

PS: for those of you who may bring a hand to their mouth and gasp: that was a joke too... or was it? Ah, a man of mystery...

Hi LiSe...

Except that a lot of people who consult the Yi rely on the commentaries as much as they do the Zhouyi (if not more at times)... and (as you well know of course) the YiJing has evolved to become quite a different animal from the Zhouyi.

So I think there are probably the IChingueros AND the Zhouyistas. I just don't know which I am yet. Pero yo creo ese "IChingueros" es mucho mas provocativo y, por esa razon, mucho mas diversion, y, por esa razon, el que preferir?a. *grin*

Te amo,

Val

PS... Being the purist that I am, I'm tending to ignore the commentaries myself these days and rely solely on the Zhouyi, and I notice that, as a result, my answers are crisper and clearer.

I'd still rather call myself an IChinguera though. Luis will understand why... *grin*

Omshante...

"well seeing as the Pope has dropped the biggest 'lovebomb' in history"

Would you mind terribly either explaining what you mean by biggest 'lovebomb' in history or directing me to a story about it... simply so that I can have a idea of what you're referring to.

Since I have no interest in things Christian, I ignored the Catholic media blitz for the past couple of weeks in favor of things that do interest me... as did a number of other people that I know.

Thanks.

Love,

Val

Hi Pagan and Everyone:

I have enjoyed all the posts in these thread. There are many funny and creative members in this forum.

Is there a final agreement on the name? My serious opinion on the matter,

Ichingueros, for non-spanish speaking people it will probably not mean much, and I am not sure it will be undestood that this is about I ching reading. For spanish-speaking it is a hilarious name, but I do not think it will be taken seriously, but as a joke (an extremely funny one though).

I ching master, this name corresponds with what will be delivered which is an I ching reading. And it will be understood by people that know what I ching is, so you will be targeting a specific audience. If you had a more general name you will probably be drawing a more diversified audience (I ching diviner for example). But this depends on what you really want.
My humble opinion. ET

IMO, anyone who represents that he has mastered the Yijing is a pompous, self-deluded fool.
But at least he will have a huge, self-deluded audience.

that could be redndant, reiterative and repititious,
as well as saying the same thing over and over and over again.

I was thinking Bradford might be somewhat full of beans, even if his translation was pretty. But with this post he wins my heart utterly.

So I reckon Bradford's next book won't be subtitled as follows...

"The Definitive Translation by Jefe Grande de los Ichingueros Brad Hatcher"

fondly,

FC

PPS. Also, I agree totally with Val's thoughts about Zhouyista divinations being agreeably clear and crispy.

But also (like Val, I think) I want to reserve the option of cycling up to a different century...

Sometimes you feel like a 1000 BC nomadic warrior prince.

Sometimes you don't.

There?s a little elitism in all intellectuals, 1000 BC or otherwise. There?s something about books that siphons the soul from a man. Fortunately, humor is a just redeemer if he recalls to laugh at himself.

But of course! Can you spell "L-U-I-S"? (I wish! I'm pretty much at the bottom of the Yi food chain)

Actually, there is a word in Spanish that's very similar to "Master": Maestro. But the word has other nuances. Very different as in English. A "maestro" can be a grammar teacher, for example, but also applies as a title to Christ, as another example. It leans more towards a "teacher" meaning, a learned giver of instruction. "Master" has some meanings in English that I find "dark", like domineering in "Master-Subject" way. The Spanish word lack those.

Luis

PS: whadyaknow, "Ichingueros" started a revolution... Be afraid, very afraid, Spanish is taking over the waves...

It seems to go without saying that no one masters the ICHING. For the love of Ichingueros there is no one who masters cooking, or even picking their nose. There is always one more nuance. One achieves mastery when one learns how to learn, when one learns how to teach, when one's love of something enables him to pass that love onto another.

Good morning ET...

It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance as well.

Good morning to you too Freeman...

Bradford is one of the most generous scholars of the Yi I've had the pleasure to "meet."

I'd love to see his "trophy room"... a large collection of hearts there no doubt. He won mine a long time ago. And being in the same general vicinity now... my heart whispers hello to yours.

Candid...

I ain't no intellectual. I gave up my brief fantasy of "being" an intellectual at a very early age when I decided fiction was far more fun than "non-fiction" and "doing" was far more rewarding than "knowing." Painting is about the only thing I've really cared to "know" a whole lot about since it's something I enjoy "doing."

Still I'm very very curious about the Yi... but I have my limits as to how much I want to pursue learning... particularly since the more I learn, the more I realize what a true mystery it is and just how much I DON'T know... and will probably never will know.

AND I admit... I'm given to those fantasy flights to which Freeman referred.

Do you still love me anyway?

Love ya,

Val

Omshante...

Sorry... I still don't know what the Pope has done. I haven't been paying attention.

The only Catholic I've been paying any attention to these days is Richard Rutt... I'm reading his wonderful book about the Zhouyi. His translation of the Zhouyi is one of my favorites. Oh... unless Elmore Leonard, John LeCarre and Barbara Kingsolver are Catholics. I've recently gone through several Leonard and several Kingsolver novels and just finished a very early LeCarre novel. It was great good fun.

Love,

Val
