For a bunch of technical reasons (like getting something affordable and Mac-compatible) I've ended up hiring a webinar room by the month. It takes 20 people, has voice and text chat and co-browsing, and you can log in here. We'll have it until late August at the least.

So... seems a shame to leave it just sitting there. I have a couple of events lined up for the next two Saturdays - see the news page. If anyone wants to set anything up at other times, feel free. (Let me know if you want a moderator account.) Or if you have suggestions for topics or speakers you'd like me to set up, let me know, likewise.

I would love to practise a bit, listening (and understanding! - and figuring out if my mic works this time) and talking. About dunno, what happens to come up. Going to be there at noon (England time, in Holland 1 pm, in USA anything between 4 and 7 AM I think) and keeping it open on my screen for 2 1/2 hours. If nobody comes, no problem.

I will try to be there around 1 pm Dutch time.
Don't know if my computer holds (it crashes quite often lately, grmp) or if my mic works, though ..

Martine,

I keep hearing this about you, did you really have a sex change operation? How interesting!

Ithaki, I have not decided yet if I'm Martin who dreams that he is Martine or Martine who dreams that she is Martin.
I will keep you posted!

Your pitch changer worked very well, Kevin. My voice was so horrifying that everyone left except LiSe, so we had a nice private chat. Thanks!

That should be easy!
Just pinch yourself real hard and you should wake up from those feverish dreams you seem to be having!

It works for me...

It may be strange making love in a dream
when the girl you?re loving is your own other extreme
but for me it sure beats the alternative!

We had a very nice chat, the four of us, M, M, L and c. Have been talking stereo.

Searching for 'Journeying' images, but also keeping the room on my desktop again this afternoon (same time, but not sure when I might have to leave). Who knows, someone might drop by..

Hi Hilary,

This saturdays event,'Journey Imagey', is this a discussion about the imagery in the texts, with ideas, thoughts and feelings discussed? If so, I would be interested in attending if that is okay

That's exactly what it is.

For the sake of focus, I'm preparing a small-ish set of common images and phrases around the 'journey' theme (river crossing, horses, paths...). So I will have some ideas and illustrations to start the ball rolling on half a dozen or so examples, and I hope that for each one, people will share ideas, thoughts, feelings, experiences, and all. Please come!

A couple of bits of advice: 1) do get yourself a computer headset so you can talk in the room as well as type. More fun that way.

2) Try logging in now just to make sure you don't have any problems come Saturday.

Post a note here when you do, and maybe someone will spot it in time to join you.

Very dumbly, I didn't collect email addresses from people who came to yesterday's webinar, but I would still love some feedback from you. Just two questions:

What you'd change about it for next time
What you wouldn't change

Most people there were very quiet... I'd especially welcome suggestions on how to make it easier for people to ask questions, make comments, share experiences, etc.

Whether you came or not, I'd also love to have some suggestions for future topics to discuss/ things to do in the room.

Hey Hilary,

Thanks for hosting the room, it was very enjoyable.

You could possibly find a way to electric shock people who dont talk
happy.gif

I know some people just like listening to and absorbing new ideas, which is good. And some people prefer to eat their headphones, which again, is good.

One thing we could possibly discuss is symbol traditions. These are vital to the essence of each text, giving an indication as to how a realising person may deal with the energies. There is plenty to discuss there

Thanks

'Symbol tradition' meaning Daxiang, trigrams, right? (See, I grew up on Eranos, too
happy.gif
) That could be a thing... not the whole 64 at once (3 hours is long enough, I reckon...), but maybe a few hexagrams people put forward.

It's been hinted to me tactfully that I talked and jumped round between hexagrams too fast. Another time I won't try to squeeze so much in, and will gallop less. Of course if people want to just listen and/or eat headphones, this is fine. What I would like is to create an atmosphere where people keep chipping in, even if just to say 'me too' or 'what??' - just so I know there is still somebody there.

I really appreciated your contributions, btw.

Aside from having mutltiple distractions on the home front which made it hard for me to concentrate completely, I felt a little out of my league..I am not really one who has spent a lot of time looking at the imagery in depth, and if I said anything at all, I wanted to sound like I had at least half a brain, not just 'duhhhhh' .It was very interesting though..

My personal preference would be a webinar where many chime in on a specific reading or readings...I would love that.
And hilary , you are a gracious hostess.

I really loved the webinar. Hilary had made beautiful pages about journeying, roads, carts, compass directions, which in itself already gave some new views on them. But what I liked most, was its 'brainstorming' quality. For that the silent listeners certainly did their part, simply by listening...

That line in 47, about the metal chariot, is to me very different now. I suddenly realized that the metal can be very common. Certainly no gold, then the text would have emphasised it, but maybe no bronze either.. Maybe down-to-earth iron, strong enough to hold even the most ferocious criminal or madman inside: a Black Maria!

After all the lines all deal with being restricted, tied to things, confinement.
Tied to a tree trunk..confined with food and drink.. tied to stone.. confined in an iron cart.. nose cut and confined by Red Sashes... tied to creepers and vines... All as if some outside (social) force did it, not fate or one's own mind.

I like Micheline's idea too, and someone with knowledge, of history or whatever, like Margaret Pierson, is also wonderful. This one refreshed my views. They all have their own special merit.

I think some of the lines of 47 are confining yourself. Surely line 6, anyway - it's not really the creepers keeping you there, you can 'set out to bring order' if you just do something. (I think.)

That carriage certainly feels like a prison, though, whether you get put in it for being a criminal or for being important. (FWIW - which is not much - I don't think it can be iron, as that came later.)

I loved the insight from Matt - one of those ultra-simple ideas that suddenly open windows. Carts and carriages are where you keep still, yet travel.

Um. Webinars. Micheline, you're a genius. I can tell, because it took me an hour of intense conversation with Yi (and many encounters with the toe of its boot) last night to get to the same idea.

Webinars may or may not be the best place to discuss Yi phrases etc, though I'm prepared to give it another go (with changes!). But they're a very good place to share the experience of working through a reading - that's much harder to communicate after the event. Of course the idea puts me into all kinds of panic - what if I go blank? But that's very probably a sign of a great river up ahead. Pass the waders.

Hm. Do we need some sort of prior arrangement for that, so we know whose reading we'll discuss and I can send out hexagrams and lines in advance? (I did something like that before, and most of the people we'd prepared readings for failed to show.) Or should we cast hexagrams as we go along and improvise, and borrow LiSe's site again for texts?

Sounds a great idea. The way I interpret divinations are very different than how it is traditionally done, hence why I never post in the friends area where readings are advised upon. So this would be a nice opportunity for me to listen to how you all go about divining deeper meanings
happy.gif

It is the first time I have seen LiSe's site, and it is very rich in original ideas, I like it very much.

Micheline, were you the girl with the New York accent?

And Hilary, you orchestrate very well, so do not worry about how things work out, it is better to be spontaneous anyway

Be nice to see Bruce there too, I always read his comments with fascination, many inspiring metaphors and ideas.

Maybe if you gather some interesting readings, and the 'owners' showing up or not does not really matter?
In the webinar it is the discussion which is the interesting part. When someone really needs a personal answer there is always the friends area.

You are right about confining oneself. I had in the beginning only the lines about Sashes and tied to a tree, and they were about being confined. When I added all the lines, I forgot to change it.

And it sure would be nice to have Bruce there too..
