The last piece of the puzzle that needed closer inspection for me was Boris Johnson seemingly overlooking the bullying by Pritti Patel and thereby condoning it. As PM of UK I felt that this was setting a bad example and sending out the wrong message to the nation, or even globally. So I asked

What are the consequences of others turning a blind eye to bullying or in other ways condoning it?

Reading: 56: 6 <> 62 = Wandering <> Exceedingly Small

Wandering means that ‘there are few connections made’ through Exceedingly Small ‘stepping over the line’. (Hilary)

Hex 62 - ‘allows small works but not great works’, and extols the needs to feel the depth of sorrow in the situation and yet to be exceeding respectful and moderate in words and deeds.

Wilhelm commentary:

We must understand the demands of the time in order to find the necessary offset for its deficiencies and damages. In any event we must not count on great success, since the requisite strength is lacking.

Hex 56 - Wilhelm Commentary on Judgement:

When a man is a wanderer and stranger, he should not be gruff nor overbearing. He has no large circle of acquaintances, therefore he should not give himself airs. He must be cautious and reserved; in this way he protects himself from evil.
Wilhelm Image:

Thus the superior man
Is clear-minded and cautious
In imposing penalties,
And protracts no lawsuits.

It is a phenomenon of short duration. This is what penalties and lawsuits should be like. They should be a quickly passing matter, and must not be dragged out indefinitely.

56.6 - Wilhelm

The bird's nest burns up.
The wanderer laughs at first,
Then must needs lament and weep.
Through carelessness he loses his cow.
Misfortune.

Wilhelm Commentary:

This misfortune may overtake the bird if it is heedless and imprudent when building its nest. It is the same with a wanderer. If he lets himself go, laughing and jesting, and forgets that he is a wanderer, he will later have cause to weep and lament. For if through carelessness a man loses his cow-i.e., his modesty and adaptability-evil will result.

I noticed that again I have asked a less than straightforward question and this certainly isn’t the kind of message I was expecting to see in the reading. However I look at it I can’t seem to see anything wandering too far from the following summary:

A wanderer has his own goals in life and has to remember he is always a stranger in a strange land when he steps into other peoples lives. When he finds himself in a context of crossing that line, though, he is only going to be able to make small differences or have small victories. To achieve what he can when he does cross that line he has to be firm and correct and true to himself.

The world of the bully is not the wanderer’s world and so an intervention is not about taking responsibility in any way for the bully’s actions and must be clearly limited for acting / intervening in nothing other than a cautious way. The wanderer by bringing firmness and clarity to shine on the situation creates a little good fortune. Anything excessive intervention is likely to cause conflict to arise. Likewise it is advantageous to keep all interventions short and to not attempt to impose any punishments on the bully.

The Nuclear for Hex 56 is Hex 28 Great Exceeding. This is working away in the background exuding vibrations in which

A noble one stands alone without fear,
Withdraws from the time without sadness.’

So when a bully is seen at work, speak up, shine your light on what is wrong in the land and then walk on. You have your life and the bully / victim have their own drama to play out. Remember, if you ever find yourself in this situation it is not your responsibility to save either the victim or the bully. Act and speak from your truth cautiouslyand without judgement, so when the time is right for you walk on you can do so without sadness.

….of course the reading may mean nothing like this at all for you.

Please share any other thoughts or interpretations.

Good Luck

56.6 > 62

They are endangering their own home and livelihood.
Bullies are dangerous to everyone around them.
Condoning bullying is a behaviour which will one day turn against you, one way or another.
Overall 56.6 > 62 gives me a sense of having to show extreme caution in the face of severe possible concequences.

56.6 - 62 : what Diamanda says resonates very loudly in me. Indeed, to accept the unacceptable is to burn the house, the structure... So if we accept bullying, violence, abuse, we burn our own home, our value, our integrity...

Hi my_key,

What are the consequences of others turning a blind eye to bullying or in other ways condoning it?

56.6 to 62 ~ Nobody thrives around a bully.

The eye (fire) in 56 is put out (line 6) by the stick (thunder) meaning that the bully is leading the blind by beating them, making only small things possible.

So, willful blindness is probably not the best strategy for dealing with a bully?

I hope this helps!

For me there is an ethical and moral aspect to bullying and I don't hold true that turning a blind eye is the right thing to do.

@diamada - Condoning bullying is a behaviour which will one day turn against you, one way or another.
@Matali - So if we accept bullying, violence, abuse, we burn our own home, our value, our integrity...
@radiofreewill - willful blindness is probably not the best strategy for dealing with a bully

I agree with these statements and was expecting Yi to be more forthright in it's response, being louder in voicing these themes. So, I have been pondering more.....

What has come to mind is the 'Karpman Drama Triangle' All human interactions when there is a low level of awareness play out in a triangular way between positions of Persecutor (bully), Victim and Rescuer.

The bully stands in his position being bouyed in their self worth by holding 'power over' people around. The victim sits passively allowing others in a postion that is 'under powered' - passive and submissive. The rescuer looks to make things right and their interaction can be seen as a threat by either of the other two positions and any approach can be seen as an attempted to 'rob away power'.

To break free of the triangle and it's consequences people need to 'stand in their power' with full awareness.

So if I see bullying or abuse then when I approach any interaction starts with the bully in their all powerful state. The only two free spaces left in the triangle are victim or rescuer.

If I approach with a victim mindset than I have no confidence in my ability to resolve matters and am not aware of my limitations or the dangers that I might be letting myself in for. If I approach, uninvited, with a rescuer mentality from 'a position of needing to fix' or ' a need to save others', then I am stepping into another land and again hold a position of low or distorted power, of which the bully can take full advantage.

However, if I approach the situation in an assertive mannner then I am conscious of my surroundings in this strange land. I know my limitations and to the extent that I am going to intervene and how. From that perspective I stand fully in my power (calm and centred ) and can shine my light onto the situation without going to extremes that will disempower my standing. Once I become disempowered then I place myself in danger.

That I think is more the position in my interpretation of 56: 6 <> 62 as outlined in my first post. The Nuclear of Hex 28 Preponderance of the Great I think underlines the advantages that standing in our own power brings.
The raeding I still think says that there is harm done at some level if we just turn a blind eye to or condone bullying. However there is a safe way- a power with way - that can be modelled by the wanderer that will encourage small personal growth for the bully and the victim. By bringing firmness and clarity to shine on the situation creates a level of safety for all and with it good fortune. Any excessive intervention is likely to cause conflict or disharmony to arise.

So, yes do not turn a blind eye to bullying but be fully aware of your abilities and potential harms for self and others ( bully /victim) when doing so.

....or it may be nothing like that at all.

Good Luck

I like what you say, mi-key, and I would also suggest a refinement for your consideration, as well?

There is a line in the Roger Ames translation of "Dao De Jing" verse 63 which says:

Requite enmity with character (De).

To any situation where emotions are beginning to billow the sea of your Peace, as if being in a washer machine, take to the high ground, calm and centered, like you say, of the witness position:

4TrueCompassion.jpg

So, whenever we start telling ourselves stories about 'who' we are ~ Bully, Victim or Rescuer ~ we fall into the washer machine of low-quality living? If we say to ourselves, "Bullies are bad," then we'll jump right into that washer machine to play either the Victim or Rescuer role?

However, to remain Present in the witness position, calm and centered, is to see clearly the Way (Dao) and to also maintain the noble character (De) needed to peacefully traverse the path through a fallen world while doing 'right' things along the way.

3GraspingandDwelling.jpg

If you can stay Present in the witness position, then you will naturally do 'right' things ~ whatever is appropriate for the situation at hand?

And, it's never hopeless, either, no matter how bad it may seem?

The first page of the Lilliputian War Plan was a quote:

"Even Giants lie down to sleep."

I've liked your exploration of bullying!

Requite enmity with character (De).
or return animosity with virtue
So, whenever we start telling ourselves stories about 'who' we are ~ Bully, Victim or Rescuer ~ we fall into the washer machine of low-quality living? If we say to ourselves, "Bullies are bad," then we'll jump right into that washer machine to play either the Victim or Rescuer role?

As your sketch shows...... when we are present and witnessing we are above the waves of the washing machine. We are above / beyond the ego. We are aligned with our true self rather than enmeshed in a false truth.
If you can stay Present in the witness position, then you will naturally do 'right' things ~ whatever is appropriate for the situation at hand?
It's not always easy to be calm, assertive and present, however the benefits do abound when the great is in preponderance. Then the truth and the needs of the time are revealed.
I wonder in relation to this the victim confronting the bully as an act of 'doing the right thing'. As we saw in moss elk's true life scenario. Perhap's here, the victim witnesses within himself the need to break the cycle: to break free of their drama with that bully. The 'injuredness' in the life ( sacred meal) of the bully needs to be addressed. The bully is not able to so the truth of the victim speaks out in the only way it can, through confrontation, to bring good fortune to them both.
I've liked your exploration of bullying!
It's been an eye-opening stroll in the park for me. In response to the times we live in, as I made each divination the right thing to do felt to be to share it. I am glad that you have liked the exploration too.

So maybe the lawsuits come with the turning of a blind eye........
