Hi all! :)

I've asked the Yi to give me an image of where I stand in a relationship. The answer has been 22.1 > 52.

He lends grace to his toes, leaves the carriage, and walks.

I've read a few commentaries and also searched the forum archives without however finding enlightenment. Is this saying the onus of developing the relationship overcoming any potential obstacles is on me and that I should not count on any help? What carriage is the Yi hinting at?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

hey chris

I tend to see this line as saying you can dispense with pomp and doing things for the sake of appearances and be yourself, although that doesn't really answer your question as to 'where you stand'. But it does change to 52 which is a stable sort of hexagram although it probably comes with a warning that nobody can know what the future can bring. So, it seems to be a very favourable reading to me in so much as it seems to say that you are in a good place and if you want to move further (? dunno where you are at the mo so this may not make much sense) you can.

You're actually not taking the ride maybe, and instead have chosen your own means to proceed.

So, in the relationship, you have in some way achieved or decided to be independent. This is where you stand: "A person who decides to be independent".

It's what I see given your question.

You need to take more practical, less romantic wiew of things and not to be carried away with the romantic aspect alone but choose to go beyond that and find out what it is really all about between the two of you. But it looks to me you are doing it already :)

The carriage is the vehicle of a court official. She does not depend on her offical position to get to where she wants to go. Adornment through ordinariness.

Thank you so much guys for your inputs! They've all been quite inspirational :)

I finally understood the mountain symbolized by 52 is what I need to climb on foot. The Yi does not say if I am going to reach the top; it is however saying I can count on my own means (no carriage) to face this journey. Something like: the opportunity is there, up to you to seize it. This is quite fitting to the specific relationship, and also in line with my way of thinking... Although I would have obviously preferred a reassuring "You are the apple of their eyes" kind of answer :D
