What do I need to know 43.1>28

I'm buying a second hand car and everything appears great with it but the owner just seems too keen to sell it and is asking $400 less than he paid 2 weeks ago.
He appears to have a valid reason for selling it so quickly but I'm not really 'sold' on it because of his eagerness.

what do I need to know about any problems this car may have mechanically or otherwise.

Hex 43.1>28

Something to do with his eagerness perhaps and possibly the accelerator.

thanks, Liss

The casting suggests that there is an undeclared (43.1) defect (28).

Nine at the beginning means:
Mighty in the forward-striding toes.
When one goes and is not equal to the task,
One makes a mistake.

Could be accelerator but might be transmission. Anyway, get it checked out before buying.

The Jiao Shi Yi Lin (Garden of Changes) verse for that is:

43 - 28

The rain goes on and on,
The roads are all awash in mud.
The businessman cannot travel,
The market has no goods.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement for a car buy. It's an investment. If possible, have a mechanic look the car over.

I agree with Pocossin (and CJ, too - cross-posted) - get it checked out. There's probably something wrong with it.

Every part of that reading seems to be a warning. 28 - something that collapses under stress. 43 - I have the vague notion I've gotten this to refer to something literally broken ("Breakthrough"), although, in fairness, I've been unable to find that reading or readings. The line - literally says it is "not equal to the task" - I'd assume that's referring to the car.

JUST what you need, right? You've been trying to buy a car for a while, haven't you, and now you're having trouble finding a decent one. Keep your chin up! Much better to find out now than after you buy it. Give Yi a hug :D.

To CJ - is there an online resource you'd recommend that would explain your methods? Personally, I am not familiar with the Garden of Changes and so forth.

Or, would you be willing to write something up here on Clarity and put a link to it in your signature? If you click on the "connotation" link in Pocossin's signature, you'll see what he did. It's something Hilary has recommended if people are using methods which may be unfamiliar to others.

A suggestion

If something about the way you do readings is unfamiliar to most members (eg the method, the text), please edit your signature to include a link to an explanation. (You can always write this yourself in Exploring Divination.)

43.1 says rash action will lead to bad results but is that saying don't buy the car?
Your question was What do I need to know?
So I think the I ching is only saying you need to know it is unwise to rush into any major purchase. (and therefore to have it checked out by a mechanic as others have advised.)

If the seller has indeed knocked down the price because of a mechanical defect it still may be that the defect could be repaired without too great expense, but that is a few steps down the road. All you need to know now is to get the car checked out.

The Yi Lin (usually translated as "Forest of Changes") is a book in which each of the 4096 possible hexagram changes is represented by a short poem.

These poems are said to be difficult to translate, and I thank cjgait for posting them.

Good point. Regardless of what they are called they just seem totally random and unconnected with the I Ching, at least unconnected with the casting. Hence a link and some explanation would be good. For the purposes of divination they seem so random as to have no meaning but maybe some have found them to have a useful divination function ?

Actually has anyone found them to have a useful role in divination ? Probably too early to tell I guess as not many use it or have access to it.

Thanks to everyone for your help and yes I did ask what do I need to know about any problems, (thanks Rosada).

I guess the problem to know is that being rash would not be a good idea.

The reason he gave for buying the car was that he couldn't get a loan for the car he wanted to buy so he bought this one and then he managed to get a loan elsewhere so he bought the van he wanted - is that where the rash decision comes into it too?

When I showed interest in the car he went out of his way to get me to look at it. He travelled an hour to get it to me because I couldn't get to him bringing his brother with him in another car assuming I was going to purchase it there and then and he had a lift back home.

Hmm…that's very interesting, Liss. Perhaps we were being given an answer to your question and that what you really were needing to know was why was the man so eager to sell the car? Now that we have the details I can see where the IC could be interpreted as saying, "What you need to know is the man rushed to buy the car (43.1) and now he has two car payments and his financial situation is about to collapse (28)."

Hmmm..can you call him back?

Ah that makes sense - I could call him back yes but I've chosen to look at another car which I feel I will buy on the spot. You know a bit like you can look at a dozen cars, or houses or whatever but when you know you just know it's the right one. - Liss
