I see this as wanting to leave this life and start again following their own path, but perhaps that is too extreme. Reincarnation is the process of forgetting the past, yet we forget things all the time, who can remember every minute of yesterday, let alone last week. Being born again is a less extreme process as is ascension. To give up completely on this creation, this world, this universe, with all its history, language and culture, is extreme in the upmost. I'd like to get a better handle on the question I asked, in some ways 24, 4 is the desire of everyone eventually, or at least most people. I'd also like to know how I can assist them, but changing line four seems to suggest that they don't want assistance. Perhaps I should just mind my own business. Thank you.

Do people think I am interpreting 24, 4 correctly in the context of my question;?;

I consulted Da Liu's commentary and see that he suggests that 24, 4 implies a time to better oneself. It occurs to me that this could apply equally to my parents and to me, or even society at large, to walk amongst one another but work on oneself.

Your parents want you to be aware of your own inner guidance and to be able to provide for yourself, to be self reliant. Pretty much what every parent wants for their kid.

24.4 says they want you to become independent of them, as all parents want.
