In my quest for spiritual teachers, I went to this Tibetan Buddhist today (Mahayana tradition). I was blown away by the senior American monk who donated a huge amount to the centre saved from his meagre 'stipend' that mostly takes care of his travel expenses. And he answered my question too in clear terms. Amazing that I caught his very last talk on 'The Ultimate Reality' and hopefully he will be back again. I was however unnerved by the rather lecherous behaviour of one of the senior members and I am aware that I must make no overt comparisons with my Path of 16 years so as not to create any tension there. Therefore, I see a need for cautious behaviour. I asked the Yi What if I continue to visit the centre and got hexagram 62 lines 4 and 5 moving to 39.

Could the kind people here help me understand this?
Thank you!

Is it 62.4.5 → 39 or 62.4.6 → 52?

I guess it was 62-39 as you state at the end of your post.
Hmm, looks like it's okay for you to continue going there, just don't get too attached. Do your thing and go. Some little progress can be made but not much.

Wilhelm's comment is rather interesting, 62.5:
But these helpers must be modestly sought out in the retirement to which they have withdrawn.
It is not in the fame nor their great names but their genuine achievements that are important.

It's the people that matter, not the centre itself. Maybe try asking where this awesome monk will go next, and follow him?

Thanks Ashteroid. This awesome monk is not too far from Bangalore, but will probably be back and he did point us to another awesome monk - 'a great teacher' he calls him who will be here soon. These teachers come and go. I believe the centre has 4 such teachers.

Line 62.4 cautions you against thinking that the current situation is going to last for long: "after all it cannot continue forever." [Thomas Cleary] There is something transient at work here and the situation will soon come to an end.

Well, Ashteroid and Ginnie

While I was told at the Centre by someone I know from years ago (so glad to see him there!), The monks are very strict - in that they don't give advice to students unless asked 3 times. But luckily I attended the 'Ask a Monk' session that day conducted by the same awesome monk and asked my question which was answered and now he has replied to my FB message and even agreed to add me to his Friends list. I have been conversing with him! No wonder the Yi gave me hexagram 8 (twice) regarding guidance from him. He is guiding me and I am blessed.

By the way - it IS 62 to 52. And that's no wonder because I'm still learning important things and feeling important things. In fact, I'm helping transcribe teachings given by a well known monk who is reputed as a teacher.

Also, I want to point out something important - 61 line 6, goes into the inverse hexagram - 61 - Inner Truth. I think that too comes into play. How do others view top line changes?

Circe

Here is the short answer, I will email you with the rest.

There is no need to concern yourself with the behavior of the senior student if that is not who you are coming to learn from. Just ignore him, (I would recommend not in a hostile way, as the person involved may not realize how he is coming across) and follow along. I say that without having read the I Ching.

Later with a full answer from the I Ching in email.

Thank you so much Gene! You always come to my rescue. It's all so much clearer now and in fact, I drew the same hex and lines recently again!
