In your other professions you have worked with your hands. The ding (50) was a precious object of its era. Could you do jewelry design or create some precious but useful object? Could you do industrial design? It is rewarding and contributes to the public good.

14.1 is simple. You have many talents and abilities and could do a number of things. You can choose what you want. The I Ching is saying it actually doesn't matter what you choose to do as long as you are sure to not be involved in anything that would be harmful to yourself or others.

Lots of freedom to do what you like.

14.1 has always been a bit of a wake up call for me. It says to me that if something is not going to help someone then don't say or do it. If it is going to make someone sad or be upset - don't say it or follow it through. It is not about being dishonest it is about using honesty to help. If I told someone that their coat looked awful then that would be honest but hurtful. Best to smile and say nothing. However if someone had a stain on their coat and needed to know then that would be helpful

Hexagram 14to me is all about doing what is right and having loads of choice but within the petani tests of kindness. It has often come up for me when I have had an important career choice - and it has always been helpful
