The sun in heaven above, shedding light over everything on earth, is the image of possession on a grand scale. But a possession of this sort must be administered properly. Only in this way does he fulfill the benevolent will of God, who desires only good and not evil.

Our spirits are always in conflict with good/ bad, right/ wrong. There are good influences and bad influences we decide what we let enter our being, what we acknowledge as wrong or right.

Hex 18 is about working on what has gone wrong in the past, I see myself now presently at working on those past mistakes I have made to become a better person. But it's like a 22 thing, something on the surface but is in fact spiritual > 50

I was wondering also when I have lines that are moving in the hexagram would I read the judgement or the image- or both depending? I've been reading the judgement for static hex' and kinda skimming through the whole thing to get an idea what it's about at times. And for the ones with moving lines I read the image then the lines.

This whole question is good to have with it a little background info on what meganj means by spirit. People have so many meanings for these things so this is a tricky one. I'd also like to think the answers to these sorts of questions are not static and forever valid. But it is interesting nonetheless to ask, just harder for people to help out in a way, especially not ever meeting meganj before.

18 would indicate that your spirit is coming from a place of disorder but you would like to work on it. 14 would indicate your spirit is controling in nature. One that molds the situation and feels important. Line 1 is a warning to stay on the right path, because everywhere in life there are interactions (conversations exchange etc) and whatever you bring to this exchange will be brought back to you like a mirror. So if it is good, that is, if your spirit is good, then you will have success back. Line 4 is pretty cut and dry. It is a warning for your spirit to not take dominance. To not be forceful. What do you take from this?

I did a reading for somebody else and it seemed to reflect what they were going through at that moment in their life.
Your response is like a mirror of my situation at present. I don't think there's one fixed answer to this question about what a spirit is, because it can be anything at any time. There are questions such as - what is the person going through at this time and what are they trying to attain.
I'll need some time to think that one through.

The point of spirit is that it is above and beyond change....the eternal part of the self, always present even beyond death...hence not really describable. So i thought the question 'what is my spirit' meant...that...what is my spirit. Such questions, interestingly, often draw hex 14...one has/is. Spirit Is...Being is

Some have interpreted the question as 'what do i look like' which of course is subject to change and also subject to the subjective perception of the viewer. There is no objective view of you as I cannot get outside of me to look at you...I will always see you through my eyes with my perceptiion which is not objective. So one could say more is revealed about the viewer when they describe someone than the viewed ?

I personally do not think a persons spirit is revealed in all they do. For example I see a crack addict on the street smoking and cursing....does that tell me all about is eternal life spirit ? Not really all I see is where he is now, and even then through my own limited perception. I think we are best assuming we know very little about other people for things are rarely as they appear. Often we don't know whats under the surface of someones self presentation and may often be very suprised by it. People become expert at presenting an acceptable face. Recently someone was describing to me how unhappy she was...all the time with a lovely smiling face, so I was laughing and joking back. Someone else came along with more insight into what lay beneath...gave her one look and she crumpled into tears. I was amazed at the brilliance of her cover technique and I've seen that many many times and lets not forget people can kid themselves as much as anyone else, its a coping technique.


Of course it all depends on interpretation of the word 'spirit' which as AQ said can mean many different things to different people. I accept that to some it may mean energy quality or something...or even persona. On the whole though I'd think spirit would be free of definitions we or others give to ourselves.

IMO the spirit of the crack addict cursing on the street spirit is as pure and intact as anyone else's spirit. One might say his spirit is present throughout all manifestations of his human behaviour or circumstances


Someone said 'spirit affects life' but its more like 'spirit is life' it is the unchanging essence the manifest world overlays...or interacts with however you see it. The I ching advises us on riding the flow of manifest life.....but spirit is always there unchanging
