What is the best course of action for me right now?

I think this is implying to do nothing, do not take any action right now because it will not be advantageous. Instead, continue doing what I am currently doing in the field I am in, so that the "unexpected" may be given room to be received to me. By holding still, I may invite the "unexpected' event in for a different direction/path?

I think you are correct: It could also be saying that for the time-being, it is more natural for you to wait, and not to pursue:
