I asked What is the lesson in this situation? (it's like someone is playing table tennis with my emotions, two people I feel very fond of but the mini group dynamic seems very weird and I have no idea how they feel about me or how I fit in)

45.1.4.5.6 > 27

Very appropriate, yes?

But who is my proper correlate? (Not sure there is an actual correlate in this line - isn't it just the case of not knowing your mind?)

Also, why do I still not know my aim at the top line and why is this not wrong?

Hello Grace

With all these changing lines, I first looked at Alfred Huang's method of choosing lines. He says, "If there are four moving lines, choose only the upper non moving line" which in this case would be line three. There are other ways to read this, which I will look at when I have a chance, but for now, just the third line. The commentary on line three says, "Often a man feels the urge to unite with others , but the individuals around him have already formed themselves into a group so that he remains isolated."

I suspect this is pretty much how you feel. There may be no correlation to all the members of the group. The commentary also says. "resolutely allying himself with a man who stands nearer to the center of the group, and can help him gain admission..." I suspect those whom you feel closer to are the key to getting recognized by the group as a whole. This can help overcome the feeling of being an outsider.

Now, there are two yang and two yin changing lines, which seems to indicate a balance of male and female energies. Is it the case that you do not necessarily have a romantic interest in one specific person? You just want to be part of the group, right? If so, then lets look at line five, which is the governing ruler of the hexagram. It says, "If there are some who are not yet sincerely in the work, sublime and enduring perseverance is needed." In other words, it takes time. It is not going to happen over night, and you will have to work at it, and make small but consistent gains.

thanks gene. I find it very confusing using methods such as A Huang. It just seems so counter intuitive to me, but I guess ppl who have studied Yi for a long time, such as yourself, know what they are talking about.

There is romantic interest from my side, but I am very confused by it. I think it's better to avoid it and maintain platonic friendships. Also, not sure if there is any from the other two sides and if so what kind. Hence my question - what is the lesson here. I guess maybe the lesson is to let things play out and be patient..

Hey Grace, I think it's a good idea just to hang in there with this group but try to observe more than try to work out where you fit in because that all comes in time and when we have a Hunger/Desire Hex 27 we tend to chase this or want it not Now but Right Now and our emotions can get the better of us.
The lines are indicating, as gene said, that there maybe someone who you feel more of an affinity with (is this your romantic confusion) that may help you integrate yourself easier into the group.
The best way I have found to fit into a group is to try not to fit in and if it's a natural fit it will happen. Hope this helps ease your mind a little - Liss

Hi Grace

If you do have a romantic interest, the situation becomes a little different. The only two lines that correspond with each other in that way are the first and the fourth. The commentary in book three says "...but since the (fourth) line is associated with the two other weak lines of K'un, it allows itself to be influenced by them, so that its natural relations with the nine in the fourth place are disturbed. This brings confusion." I think you can relate with that. It appears that it is interference by at least one and possibly two women that are causing the problem. Then it says, "but a call (communication of some kind) suffices to do away with the misunderstanding..." The guy you are interested in would be the fourth line, but the fourth line is acting on the behalf of a larger figure in the group, and hence may not pay as much attention to you as you would like. You may want him to pay more attention to you than he can at the present time. The sixth line merely holds to the leader of the group, the nine in the fifth. Does this all make sense to you? I hope it helps.

Thank you all, very helpful. I think I just need help steadying myself as I go through this, whatever it is. Can't seem to pull away completely or even make my own choices. I do get the 'being led like sheep' line a lot but true to form, I am unable to let myself be led. No idea how to be a sheep. Funny thing for an Aries The Ram to say.

As you can imagine, I have been casting a lot about this, mostly because I cannot make sense of my own feelings, nevermind other people's. Although I get a LOT of 27 and 45 for one of them and a lot of 16 for the other. The 27/45 is the leader of the group.
Frankly, I go from feeling like i am desperately in love with one, than the other, then both then neither. It's exhausting. I don't even know if I am actually meant to work out if I prefer one to the other or just figure out which emotions are mine and which aren't.

Having asked What is the correct attitude to have about this situation, I had received 6.3 > 44 - again, I don't feel I've been helped a lot here, although I am worried Yi is counseling me to sort of say something, but I really don't want to because I have no idea what would I say? 6.3 is very apt really, but I don't know whose expertise to seek to help me with this.
