Greetings,

This is my first posting here. I was inquiring about attending a workshop in another state to the west, trying to discern whether this investment of time, money and energy are really going to be beneficial for me at this point. The reading seems to indicate that it could be very beneficial, so long as I can be committed, know where I"m going with the knowledge, and what the steps are in moving forward. I feel very encouraged by the reading in general. "Come from the source of inspiration and involve it in your work," is exactly why I am drawn to this workshop! The only part that confuses me is the directive to 'set your face to the south....which can be read in the stars and the compass, and set out towards warmth, light and activity." Are directions (South, in this case) meant literally in the I Ching, or do they represent something else? This workshop is to the west (in Seattle - not exactly the land of warmth and light!)

I'd be grateful for any help on this question!

North is the direction of wintertime where things come to rest while South is the direction of summertime and activity. Seasons and directions are simply symbols. It is said, the Yi derives from / has once been a calendar.
Great reading btw :) Good luck and enjoy...

Thanks you Lilly. I was hoping that was the case. If I can manifest what I'm beginning to see in my mind's eye, it will be a creative season, not unlike summer!

South is face forwards, growth, summer sunshine, advance. The direction facing the main gate.Movement to the outside.
Contrasts with north side.Back is body and north, turn the back on,oppose, resist.Going north is flee, retreating army, deviate depart from.

Traditionally the Zhou king faced South when giving his commands.
The line is an exhortation to boldness and taking charge.

Thank you again to each of you. I appreciate your insights, which give added clarity to this very auspicious and affirming reading. I leave Sunday!

According to "Later heavens arrangement" it's (South) represented in the trigram Li: fire. You can read more about the significance of this trigram in the wings. Futhermore it's the sign of activity and work for the light and creative forces....
