What is uncertainty?

This is the question I asked Yi today. Not in relation to any particular situation, but as my own existential doubt. It said that uncertainty is 37.6 to 63. I'm still in shock. I have tried some religious answer (although I am not a religious person at all) but suddenly, 'his' in the phrase "His work commands respect. In the end good fortune comes." made me think of some sort of being in the next life (63). I would love to hear your readings, as metaphorical as they come to you. Would you help me find a clue here, please? Many thanks in advance.

I am uncertain as to how to respond ;)

I'm not sure what is meant by this answer. Perhaps that even a successful father/patriarch is also in a state of uncertainty. Something like the aphorism - the more you know, the more you know you don't know. Just my suggestion... :)

Actually, on James deKorne's website he gives this quote to illustrate the lesson of this line, although he focuses on sincerity rather than uncertainty. Still, I think it's interesting that the quote talks about the absence of perfect enlightenment. Humans must always exist in a state of uncertainty, perhaps, given that we are small and fundamentally ignorant of the ways of the universe.

'When the Way of Heaven [or principle] and the nature of man [or desires] function separately, there cannot be sincerity. When there is a difference between the knowledge obtained by following the Way of Heaven and that obtained by following the nature of man, there cannot be perfect enlightenment. What is meant by enlightenment resulting from sincerity is that in which there is no distinction between the Way of Heaven as being great and the nature of man as being small.'

Thank you Veavea!I will look for James deKorne's perspective.Maybe the very idea of being able to command respect with our works is what is in the core of uncertainty: there is always danger of getting our heads in the water (63.6).But now you've added an idea of sincerity linked to (un)certainty. You've given me food for thought! Thanks
