Thank you Topal! And everyone else who took this journey with us..

Not sure what approach to take next. Should we focus on the trigrams? Or focus on images and songs? Or maybe take all the line ones, and then all the line twos and so forth. It's as if I'm seeing a different spin on Wilhelm's final words to 64.6, "If one gets his head wet, he loses it in truth." I feel like this study has wetted my appetite to know more, but now I'm overwhelmed with all the possible new truths!

Trigrams is a good idea, imo. If we add to the texts study image, songs, stories, myths relevant to each grigram would be interesting and many people I think would like to participate.

I would like to see a thread on the lines , a thread where people report personal experiences with the line. I always love to see how lines played out in personal readings.

I think the discussion on the meaning of the trigrams and hexagrams often lacks a cosmological view. tuckchang references the ideas from a Confucian perspective, which is closer to considering the ideas of the I Ching.

IMO, how personal reading play out and the cosmological view are not disconnected;
micro and macro. ...
theoretically speaking. :)

Thats a very good idea !!!

One vote to that :)

There are lots of treasures hidden at the archives. It would be nice to create the space ( open a thread for each hexagram ) so people could post their personal experiences. It would create a very interesting pool , imo. Though I see it not as an organized study, Just a place where people can came and go without time restrictions.

I'm going to start posting the middle section of Wilhelm, his "Discussion of the trigrams." It's pretty dry but we probably ought to read it and by doing it together we just may be able to stay awake.

thats the trouble, staying awake...the safaris on the trigrams were a bit lifeless, to me it feels contrived and strained to pull the yi apart intellectually. but carry on. best of luck.

Thanks...and of course everyone is encouraged to post their own insights and witty awarenesses to keep us motivated. I'm going to try to post a page a day so it shouldn't take forever.

That's exactly what WikiWing is :) . It was inspired quite a lot by Rosada's threads, and the frustration of knowing there were all these gems in the archives somewhere but not being able to find them. So as well as a thread for chat on each hexagram, it also has an editable 'article' for each with a more distilled version of the ideas.

And yes, it is for paying members - but I did just bring the price down... .

Hi Rosada,

Do you want to memorize Book II like the hexagram texts of Book I?

Or discuss the trigrams and their various arrangements?

Or what?

I was expecting that, lol :). Its a step before the wikiwing, more loose atmosphere... and it creates the need for someone to subscribe as a member ;)

Hi Frank,
I am not thinking of memorizing Book2 but greater familiarity with the trigrams encourages memorization. I am anticipating copying out a few paragraphs of Wilhelm each day and those who feel to can add comments. Hopefully this group focus will encourage more to read this chapter and we'll have a good time doing it.

Hi Rosada,

I looked at the beginning of Wilhelm Book II, between page 255 and 279 it goes through an introduction to all the commentaries, and a discussion of the trigrams including both the Earlier and Later Heaven circles. That would make for a good Master's degree program.

Yeah, I've skipped the introduction and started on page 262.

I would like to discuss the trigrams. good idea. did you make a new thread rosada?? Thanks for the initiation.

Edit: Would also like to discuss more about how the hexagrams flow as a whole... like how they change from one to the next. What sparked this interest was a thread http://www.onlineclarity.co.uk/friends/showthread.php?t=9942 where they were talking about hex 44 being the start of yin returning, and 24 the start of yang's return. Also, the season's and how they relate. I have Wilhelm and it goes thru the hexagrams as 1,2,3,... and on. But is there a different order, where they change in a sequence that makes a different sort of sense?

I would like to discuss the changes. I also would like to talk about the trigrams, but what exactly would we be discussing? How they came about to have fire as yin in the middle? stuff like that? (That would be cool)

Please let me know. I want in

I'm Sorry!@ I just found the thread! :)
