Good afternoon
Every so often I come with a question, usually when I feel I haven't badgered the IChing too much with repetitive questions!! This is a first question (2 really) so i feel it is a stright answer, but I am nopt getting it. I am confused particularly on the second, because I asked a what to do type question and didn't get an answer that I though reflected a course of action.
I am a musician, in a semingly blocked position, no gigs, have tried so much it, seems, to get myself work,; lately admittedly I have been so disheartened I haven't done much searching, but I realised today when I made another break to send off demo's, telephone, search the web for agents, festival, venues, etc., I felt blocked, like 'which way do I turn'. I feel as if I have been here before without success; So I lit my candle, asked for guidance and asked two questions;
1: Give me a picture of my current concert situation
32.3 changing to 40
(I know there is only 1 good gig on the horizon, and in august at that), but I wanted something else, something that would lead to the next question. Steadiness, but I feel I have been steady and determined, that's why I don't have any money now!!!!!
2. What do I need to do to get more gigs?
14.2,4 change to 22
Not a course of action. There is nothing in the wings waiting for me, as far as I know, people with ideas, that's all the time. But it still is not a course of action. Could you help please;
Humbly

14.2 "Have Sax - Will Travel"
Perhaps looking into places that would have a hard time getting acts because they are a bit out of the way, or need you at odd hours.

14.4 Making a distinction between self and neighbor. What's different about you and all the other musicians? Perhaps highlighting that.

22. Sounds like a gathering of fellow musicians. Or a group feeling.

btw, my mother is in a retirement home. I notice these homes seem to have a budget for entertainment and the people who are responcible for hiring are often over worked and don't know how to go about finding a performer. I bet if you went around to the senior homes and asked to speak with the Activities Director you'd get hired, maybe even to come on a regular basis. They often want someone who can come earlier in the day, like noon.

Hexagram 14 is about relying on you friends, allies, buddies...you get the point. Hexagram 22 is about your appearance, your looks, and how you use it. 14.2 is telling you to get a bright idea. 14.4 tells you to not go overboard. All this lands you into hexagram 22, your apperance. Simply, come up with a new idea that you won't overdue or overdress, and make sure that you can present your idea in a very visual and pleasing manner. Who would'nt hire someone who could do that?

Thanks Rosada for the Have sax line. Your right, I thought about the idea, and Possession in great measure, I have a great talent and I am not using it. I have been thinking that I am not being allowed use it because I don't fit current societal standards, neither in the way I look or my style jazz singing, not marketing myself to current upmarket airport style of jazz singing. I don't fit the record companies current model. Too daring!! But, I do have a great possession, and I need to use it, so yes, get out of the idea of just doing stuff that I find musically stimulating, and offer what I have, it will not only give joy to others, but it might make me enough money so that I can produce my own records. And highlighting my difference is why promoters (not the public, when I get a chance to sing to them, they love it)shy away from me, I am too much of a risk for the average promoter, to different, so in fact I need to hide those differences, for promoters at least.
And Bodheixeno, your idea tallies with Rosada's, now what is the bright idea that will make me money to get musical independence?
Also, the other thing is I am incredibly visual, the only jazz singer I know of who dances on stage as well as sings, so being visual is not a problem for me!!!
Retirement homes, hospitals, let me work on it, I feel encouraged, I can do it.
thanks.

What with budget cuts, many schools do not have the funding for music programs, however they may have money for special one day presentations. Perhaps what you do could be tailored to fit school assemblies. Maybe something about New Orleans and the history of jazz? When i was active in the P.T.A. in California, the Music Center in Los Angeles had a special department (Music Center on Wheels?) that handled acts that would go out to schools and do an hour of theatre for $100 a show. One performer dressed up as Mozart and brought his own harpsicord. He played several pieces and talked about life in the 1700's. He gave presentations in three different classrooms = $300 in one day. Everyone loved it and I understand he was booked solid all over Southern California.
