sometimes I feel , when i get a reading, is that the reason I got a specific line or hex is because there is a catalyst there , a word, a phrase a image, a past experience and this catalyst helps me retrieve from my mind, guts something I have forgot.
it should be clearly distinguished from the actual text, I believe.
I can read, for example, Hexagram 10 line 6:
Hilary's translation: Observe the footsteps, blessings from the ancestors.
They come full circle: good fortune from the source.
Since I had a dream about pink footsteps in the snow in the woods of my father's, I am going to think of this first and that image and memory will impact my end result of what the Yi says to me.
If I am reading for someone else...... I still would be using the symbols that speak to ME right?? ........ Maybe it is a balance to take into consideration the other person and what the book could be saying to them vs me?? Someone help me with this!
When reading for someone else, do I still use the symbols that speak to me? What if it only adheres to my life and wouldn't make sense to the other person??
Take Care!
I think divination comes very close to storytelling. We all love stories in all their different forms, some because they remind us too much of our life, some because they allow us to leave aside our life for a while and see the world through different eyes. Or, because through stories we can make a full circle, outside and then back in. To me it looks like going inside is analysis, going outside is imagination and in the middle stands the diviner/storyteller.
Thanks for your responses. Yeah, I get this feeling that I am suppose to share my symbols with the readings I give.
The person receiving the reading has the choice of how much of the blanket they want to explore, which threads to use (mine, their own, etc) and what patches they will be using.
Like sooo said, "a) would you like to know the time? b) or how to make a watch? "
Either way, I am going to give them all the information I can and that may include "how to make the watch". ... If they chose to just get the time out of it, that is ok.
