I have been seeking a new job since things seem to be on a downward trend at my current place of employment. Was scared to see this reading since it seems to me to be saying that I'll miss a golden opportunity if I take the new job. Please share your thoughts & interpretation. Thanks, Bridget:confused:

I've found 24.6 to be plain advice, not always scary, that something in the situation really is not recoverable. Something is too far gone to be retrievable. As I say it's not always scary just factual.

What is key to interpretation here is the exact question asked....ah okay it was "what to expect if I take the new job ?". Well if you are planning to salvage something, trying to get back something you lost then 24.6 says it isn't possible.

OTOH it could be saying if you don't get on with taking this new job job things will really be unrecoverable abd for goodness sake stop hesitating and get on with it. I think that interpretation is more likely since what looks to be unrecoverable is the job you are in now. Don't hang on there waiting for it to get better as it won't.

It's hard to interpret this due to the question "what to expect if...." I think you may need further clarifying questions.

Like 'what if I stay in this job ?'
and 'what if I take the new job ?'

You need to ask those seperately

Well given the way the question is posed, the answer should surely reflect that intended by the wording and sentiment? Which you'd think would mean that taking the new job would be a very bad idea.
So I have to say I do not get this and would not like to nail my colours to the mast.
It may be that you are meant to wait until other opportunity becomes available (Dening)...

I must add, I am a mere novice at this.

As Trojan suggests, I would say re-phrase your question.

bmiller107,

the answer seems pretty clear to me. What to expect? Expect failure and having to retrace your step.
Stay in your current job and bide your time. The right opportunity will come.

Ciao ciao.

As Trojan said, I think there's some confusion in the reading simply because you have TWO things in your life which could be unrecoverable: the new job, and your current job (at least in the long term).

Since the question was specifically about the new job, I'd lean towards thinking that the new job is not available anymore, or, as Trojan said, might be unavailable soon if you don't hurry take it.

But since this is SUCH an important decision, and since there is this possible confusion, I don't think we should just categorically assume that we know what Yi meant. I think you should ask other questions, similar to what Trojan suggested, in order to feel on firmer footing with the answer.

And BTW I don't think the question was a badly-written one. "What to expect from x?" seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to ask. It's just that the answer you received, in this particular case, was confusing, because BOTH jobs could be described with 24.6.

You might do these two things:
  • Without making a decision, somehow try to find out if the new job is still available. Invent some reason to check on it. Or just come right out and ask them how long you have to make a decision, if you think that's a question you could ask.
  • Ask the other questions that Trojan suggested.

Yes if it were the answer to my question I really wouldn't wish to assume it meant the new job was going to fail. Yi really doesn't always answer the precise question put it goes one better than that. Understanding how it is answering I think is much of the skill of interpretation . We don't dictate how it answers, tie it's hands behind it's back and make it stick to the question.

If it were my answer I'd look about to see what was unrecoverable. What it's most likely to be.

As Lisa says it's not a bad question it's just in this instance the answer isn't very clear as to which option it refers to. It might refer to new job but it might not

Bmiller, if you're reading this - how did this end up? I'm always so curious how these readings unfold, but folks hardly post the results! I find that 6th line really really fascinating.

Yes, this would be one where it would be really great to have an idea of what happened next. I look things up in the hexagram search too when I need some ideas on my answers and it is always so frustrating when the person never came back to tell us what happened. I never get to know how that cast played out. The hexagram search is an amazing facility for everyone. It would be even more amazing if more came back to share what happened next and how that cast played out.

I did not take the new job from this post. It ended up being the right decision because the new job offered me a 3% increase in salary but I ended up getting a 10% increase at my old job a month later.
