Today my husband's father is dead.
When it happened, they were alone. The father had not been conscious for a day, but at that moment he opened his eyes, perhaps looked at his son and died.

I asked I Ching what he had looked at that moment. He looked at his son? What did he see?
answer: 51.1.4> 2

It seems to me that he was afraid of death (51) but then a great liberation (51.1) and the vital energy abandoned him (51.4).

So I think he didn't see his son, but just a big scare. or a light? a lightning.
But can the book really answer these kinds of questions?

A greeting,
Fortuny

Fortuny Hi! That's such a great question not sure if it can be answered the question I have is.....

I've been estranged from my parents for about 20 years. About 6 months ago my mum died then 2 nights ago my dad died - the night my dad died my mum came to me in spirit sooooooo sad and such a heavy energy but Why did my mum come to me in Spirit let alone the night my dad died when she wouldn't come to me in life? As you ask, Can Yi answer such questions about death?

It certainly seems like the Yi has given an image that relates to the last moments of life for your father-in-law.
I agree with you, what he looked at and what he saw are two different things here.
What he saw is more in the context of what he realised (hex 2). Perhaps these are sights within him rather than what was in front of his eyes. His insights, therefore, were things that were rousing in some way(51). As he stares into the face of death he has a deep realisation of what is in front of him. The blessing of death is hidden behind his fears and anxiety(51.1) Then he opens himself to the journey ahead of him (51.4) - he accepts his own death and the wider perspective. In that moment, he is welcoming of his return to the flow(2).

.... or maybe it is nothing like that.
