I just spoke to an old friend I hadn't seen in quite awhile, and he told me things about an incident I'd had long ago with another old friend. I was shocked and wondered if he was really privy to the information he shared which was all news to me. I threw the coins and asked the I Ching what it thought about what he said. The result of the toss was 16 to 24.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Hunches count.

My take is that it's saying that the news has really stirred you up, that it's big news, like an elephant.

Line 1: Don't act too fast. Let it sink in.
Line 4: Good things are going to come of this. Be open and receptive.

My experience with 24 is that it usually means that the externals of the situation are going to go all over the place, and that you have to stay steady and hold onto your own sense of things while they do.

Either you're gearing up to go back and re-explore the situation you refer to in the old relationship, or that's what you would do well to do right now.

Julie, I'd love to know how you put it all together from the two hexagrams and lines that this news would really stir things up. I couldn't see that myself, but that's exactly what happened. Please read on.

Dobro, I had a very powerful dream last night that caused me to go back and revisit the situation and see it in a different light. A more objective light. As did my friend whom I spoke with yesterday.

The dust hasn't settled yet. I'm still reeling from the dream. But things have already changed dramatically. So far it's all good. Just as you said it would be Julie. No doubt I will see other changes in time. I needed another pair of eyes (or two) to help me see what I apparently didn't want to see. And I thank you both very much for providing those eyes for me.

Glad to hear it was helpful!

My reasoning was that 16 is about inspiration. Elephants are amazing and wondrous, the stuff of dreams, able to move things people can't move. In the context of just having heard surprising news, it seemed like it wasn't direct inspiration, but that it would bring about inspiration and move you to new places.

Not to take away from any other interpretations, but one of those intentionally opaque I-Ching-as-smartypants ones comes to mind too:

Just, "Well, since you asked, I think that in the ENTHUSIASM of the moment, an old friend was prompted to RETURN to an old situation."

In other words, it may not be commenting on the import of the news, and in not commenting, reminding you that it doesn't take sides.
