There's an outstanding debt that I have unsuccessfully been trying to negotiate for years. I'm trying a new angle, and asked Yi: if I submit certain paperwork in June or July, will I have success in negotiating down? 14 unchanging.:)

To provide the paperwork this week as I had initially intended is very inauspicious: 47.5.6. I won't have everything in place, and will be 'cutting off my nose'. This makes sense as i'm rushing in preparation for a trip.

July is a better time, though I should prepare myself for a certain amount of work: 39.1.4.6. Perhaps get more support beyond who I've gone to for advice? The answer seems to indicate that I can ultimately be successful if I approach them from a positive frame of mind. One point I'm not at all sure on, am I perhaps not approaching the right agency with my paperwork?

To ignore the situation altogether results in 6.6. Terrible result.

Could I receive some feedback on specific steps to take for a positive outcome? So far the advice is to have my paperwork in order and perhaps enlist some sort of support, though I'm not clear in what respect.

Thank you in advance.

sometimes hiring a lawyer is the best way to go, esp if this is in a legal setting. sometimes the fee a lawyer might charge is worth the results because they can often get a lower settlement figure. and are taken more seriously, less likely to be bullied around.

47.5.6 is not really such an inauspicious reply. it could be that this could be resolved much more easily than you suspect. less is more...be sure the paperwork you are offering is really necessary. It is important that you "show up" however.

Actually, had I received that 47.5.6 I'd have interpreted it as encouragement to push forward this week. Obviously if you can't for time or other reasons, you can't--but I don't think you were being explicitly advised against doing so.

Whether you tackle it now or in July, I do think 6.6 is clearly telling you this problem not only won't vanish if you ignore it, but has the potential to persistently nag at you for years. Or possibly, resurface a few years down the line when you think all is safely forgotten.

Just a quick follow up: I negotiated the debt down in August (after Mercury retrograde -- yes, I'm one of those ...). Anyway by the time a settlement amount was agreed upon the statute of limitations came up. which means I'm not legally obligated to pay a dime. The unpaid bill will show on my record for a couple of years, but that's a far better outcome from where I'm sitting. Also, I can continue to challenge its showing up on my records at all due to additional technicalities. What a learning experience ...

Cheers.
