I asked the Book of Changes itself to evaluate my overall progress...

Long intro, feel free to skip:

I started some 15 or 16y ago, with Wilhelm's translation (translated once again) into my mother tongue - i couldn't understand the text in any other language but my own back then - and Jung's foreword.

I loved the book immediately - i did ask what it thinks of me (as i got it that's what you should ask ;) ) - and it hit me with the fourth hexagram... So i thought to myself, 'ok, this is one honest person... pardon, book that is, and this is a beginning of a beautiful friendship! ':p

I couldn't get literature specifically on Yi Jing, so i dived into Fung Yu Lan's Chinese Philosophy and just about anything by Jung and his students that i could get... which was helpful of course, but not that much on the topic.

The 8th lectures which i got later on were a discovery for me; i read and worked with all the translations i could get - including Blofeld's , Crowley's and R.L. Wing (gave up on that one) and what not;
had given up at one point of time; then afterwords moved to China to learn the language so i can get their civilization and overall thinking somewhat better - that did help, albeit i my Chinese is beginners, i had learned 800 characters at the time and passed the1st level of knowing the language out of three.

Anyway, somewhere at the point when i thought to give up all together, i ran into good translation into my language and this very site, so it gave me the boost i needed to go on.
Now i must say that in the course of years i had met two people who claimed to be pro's with Yi Jing, after going for years to their lectures and studying from their materials i ended up with the conclusion they fitted whatever they believed anyway - into Yi Jing , which is wrong, its like various fundies finding quotes in the Bible that could confirm just about anything - while dismissing the fact it was written in ancient language, coded - and very hard, if possible at all to translate... (I must say that none of these people spoke Chinese or had any deeper Yixie knowledge - except from being self-proclaimed gurus; i wouldn't make such a mistake now - but i was fairly young, living in a place where information was not freely available and fairly naive too.)

And while i couldn't divine with the Book - it always inspired me and gave me wise advice, so i kept reading it - and i kept studying other forms of divination and mystical traditions.

Now, after all these years, i am starting to make sense of the answers i am getting - also in terms of predicting the events...

the reading
...and here is what i got:

Hexagram 50. the Cauldron , 5th line changing

Six in the fifth place means:
The ting has yellow handles, golden carrying rings.
Perseverance furthers.

to

40. Coming to meet

I had the Book referring to itself as hex. 50; but 'the powerful maiden' confuses me - more so as the book throws it at me quite often lately;
now i know it can refer to many things and doesn't have to be personal - but i am indeed living in quite a conservative and patriarchal society which is far closer - in terms of women's rights - to ancient far East then to nowdays "free world"... so i asked for clarification of the latter and i got

(mind you ;) )

hex. 44. again - 4th and 5th line changing

Nine in the fourth place means:
No fish in the tank.
This leads to misfortune.

Nine in the fifth place means:
A melon covered with willow leaves.
Hidden lines.
Then it drops down to one from heaven.

changing to hex.18 Repair.

It seems the hexagrams more or less do illustrate my story and also it seems that i am on a right path to un-learn the cr*p i don't need and correct my own attitudes and flows - working thus on what has been spoiled... Do you think i got it rightly?

Thanks in advance!

As I see, (admittedly only that) knowledge in itself is nothing, like language in itself is nothing. It is only what knowledge and language can do or undo that has any value through utility and mobility. So, if a guru or fundi utilizes what they know, and speak in such a way as to produce good fruit, knowledge through language will be as though it falls from heaven. Otherwise, they/we are a clanging gong and a collection of metaphors - no fish in the caldron, no handles to impart its contents - stale air needs a vicious wind to stir it up.

Thank you for your insights, sooo, much appreciated!

Looks like you're definitely making progress LB. There are things still "in the womb" so to speak, but the powerful encounter with spiritual truth is courting you so treat her kindly and defer to her presence i.e. don't give up! 50.5 is an insipring line for me. Good job.
